Glory Seed Devotional’s, 2017: Anticipating and Experiencing Jehovah-Jireh...
God IS NOT dead!
Shalom!
After watching your local news and national broadcast there can be little doubt we are living in a troubled world going through troubling times that seem to be shaking the very foundation of society as we know it. Everywhere you turn there are crisis’ of size and shape. And every person on this planet is affected in some way or another. It even seems even the Christian church and Christian movements are undergoing “spiritual”quakes.
How many reading this remember the Death of God Movement back in the 1960’s? An article in Time Magazine October 22, 1965 read. “The death-of-God theologians do not argue merely that Christianity's traditional "image" of the Creator is obsolete. They say that it is no longer possible to think about or believe in a transcendent God who acts in human history, and that Christianity will have to survive, if at all, without him. Altizer notes that this new kind of Godless Christianity is a uniquely American phenomenon, although it acknowledges an intellectual debt to certain European thinkers, religious as well as secular.” There are times when it almost as if the Death of God Movement as resurfaced and is gaining momentum.
HOWEVER...
Against the backdrop of all the God is Dead mumbo jumbo, and the volatile world we live in Elisha, the Old Testament prophet has some prophetically comforting words for us. “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.” (2 Kings 6:16–17, NLT) It’s almost like we’ve been duped into believing that in frustration God has turned His back on us but Elisha says, “No. No. No. There is more going on in the world than you can see. Have hope. Believe. Trust.”
And finally think about that guy Altizer who concocted up that Death of God theory he’s the one dead not God, not Jesus, not the Holy Spirit, not me, and not you! I can’t speak for you but I can and do speak for myself when I say I believe what the Psalmist had to say about the world and lfie. “Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever. Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, both now and forever.” (Psalm 125:1–2, NLT)
AMEN!
“Faith isn’t hoping for the best life has to offer, Faith is anchoring oneself to the Best God has to offer!”
Grace and PEACE,
Gary
