Life is sometimes the best sermon...
A few weeks ago, looking at my finances and my family's upcoming cross country move, I realized the finances were going to possibly not come through. So I sold my guitar. A really nice, top of the line Takamine dreadnought. I sold it to a Guitar Center rather than a private buyer sacrificing price for speed. Needless to say, I was sad. If you're a true music lover or guitar player you know how dear your instruments become to you. Especially very nice instruments.
Anyway, some friends from church, seeing on face book that I hold sold the guitar, realizing that the church had not been very charitable in its dealings with my financial situation, and knowing how much the guitar meant to me, went out and tracked down the store I sold it too.
They explained the situation to the manager there, bought the guitar back, and presented it to me as a going away gift last night over dinner.
They only condition was that I play them a song. (I played a 77's song for them).
That may have been the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me and it is a living sermon on grace, charity, love, and kindness.
And it leads me to a thankful and contented heart."Yes, I'm quite concerned about health care issues surrounding leaked radiation from Japan. Now, please pass me my super sized, bacon double cheeseburger, combo meal..."

My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz

It's nice to know that you got your guitar back and that now it will be even more precious to you.

Indeed Crow, for the moment, I can't even pick it up without my eyes overflowing with grateful tears.

Y'know, you'll probably never be able to let that one go again. For good reasons.

Re: Life is sometimes the best sermon...
I'm still just stunned by their kindness. They never told me they were doing it. They just said, we have something for you, and pulled out the case. At first I thought they were just giving me a guitar to replace my own, then I thought, wait, that case looks familiar, and when I opened it and saw my guitar there. MY guitar, same strap, same nicks and same luster, well, I was over whelmed.
I sat here at my desk for an hour just staring at the darn thing still just awed and humbled by it all. It wasn't a cheap guitar. It was a real act of kindness that required them to sacrifice. I just don't know how to thank them enough."Yes, I'm quite concerned about health care issues surrounding leaked radiation from Japan. Now, please pass me my super sized, bacon double cheeseburger, combo meal..."

yeah, it's nice when people show their love for you. Now you know that you are leaving behind something that will last and hopefully grow, as they show such love to others.

As does every such moment, Pilgrim, this reminds me of a story....

I, however, shall hold back and rejoice with you in this "holy ground" moment.
