  • CNN Reporting that US Launched 50 Missiles on Syria

Listening to the news right now, CNN is reporting that the Trump administration has launched 50 Tomahawk cruise missiles against airfields in Syria. I have no links for this yet. If confirmed, this seems like a pretty bold and decisive move on Trump's part.

It's on the NBC News website:

Scary stuff, man, especially with Russia's warnings of "negative consequences" if America attacked Syria.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Russia's deputy U.N. envoy, Vladimir Safronkov, warned on Thursday of "negative consequences" if the United States carries out military strikes on Syria over a deadly toxic gas attack.

"We have to think about negative consequences, negative consequences, and all the responsibility if military action occurred will be on shoulders of those who initiated such doubtful and tragic enterprise," Safronkov told reporters when asked about possible U.S. strikes.

When asked what those negative consequences could be, he said: "Look at Iraq, look at Libya."

Maybe he's just talking about the political fallout rather than any direct response from Russia.

They're now saying on TV that they're primarily targeting the Shayrat Airfield, where they believe the poison gas attacks originated from.

Can't find much information about this other than chest thumping and empty pontificating from the media. I think I'll sleep on it and see what the analysis is in the morning.

Ah yes, the usual double standards from the glorious leader.

Actually I agree that action of this nature is warranted; I do not agree with the impetuous, unilateral way Trump went about it.

It's worth noting that there is severe doubt that the user of the chemical weapons was Assad. Assad's government has basically now won the civil war against the rebels. The last thing he would want to do is bring the US into a war that he has won. If he wanted to massacre a few civilians he has plenty of other ways of doing it - hitting them with chemical weapons is just not at all rational, and Assad is an intelligent and educated man. It's also worth noting that Assad gave what chemical weapons he had to the US to stop them invading him under Obama, so it's doubtful he's got any left.

It's certainly an uncharacteristically foolish move on his part. He has Russia and Iran on side and the eyes of the world were off him. Why would he draw the wrath and disgust of the world upon his head. To what end?

I would have celebrated Obama as the greatest President ever had he the wisdom to permanently get out of the middle east.
I was hoping I could celebrate Trump as the greatest President ever - but like all those before he just had to stick his finger in the middle eastern pie.

Let me know if you're willing to be President and stay the hell out of the middle east.
I'll write out a campaign check today.

So Trump, I'm through with you.

Actually YOU put Trump in the White House. He wouldn't have gotten 1% of the vote if it wasn't for the widespread spiritual and cultural devastation caused by progressive policies. There's no "this country" left with your immigration policies, your "allies" are worthless and even more suicidal than you are and democracy is a sick joke that I hope nobody ever thinks about repeating when the current order collapses. - Darth_Executor striking a conciliatory note in Civics 101
