      The TektonTV Thread

OK, soooo...now that I broke down and started a YouTube channel, I figure I may as well have a discussion thread on it, for a couple of reasons...

      1) I do plan to have a place where people can come and discuss them vids.
      2) I need a place to discuss any tech issues -- like one that just cropped up.

Right now I'm trying to figure out the best way to do audio without breaking the ministry budget. The high end option is to get one of these:

      http://www.amazon.com/Samson-Zoom-H2...3875736&sr=1-1

and use it to record the audio.

The low end option was to buy a mike and use Audacity to record the audio. I tried that today....and have a really weird problem.

After recording the audio, in the playback I hear a lot of hissing and sometimes...a local radio station???

Anyone know what the deal is with that??? And no, I do NOT have a radio playing in the house (I have to say that because some smart-butt like JB will suggest it ).

The people who make the mike (Samson) have no idea what's happening. I'm not very patient when this sort of thing happens, so unless I can resolve it quickly I'll be going to the high end option.

On a more positive note, I also bought some software called Anime Studio to spice the vids up. Fans of Hearthstone might like what's ahead with that, once I learn to use it.

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

Some questions to help with problem solving:
Is the mic you're using a radio mic?
Can you replicate the same using a cabled headset?
If so, using the cabled headset, can you set things to get it to play back what you're recording as you're recording it (Monitor Setting on Audacity I think....not sure, I haven't used it about 3 years)

I'm no pro, but I think I can fix the hissing sound. Before you stop recording, let the mic record for about 30 seconds. Select this 30-second dead space and use Audacity's white noise filter to try to get rid of it. The longer the sample that Audacity can use, the better the results.

Also, get to recording a Tekton podcast, old man.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

I don't know if it is a radio mic, but I went ahead and returned it and got a cabled headset, so we will see what happens.

I was told by a couple of people that this was very unusual, and I found a few online reports of such things too. One person told me they heard a radio station coming through speakers their band was using.

Tried that, though not for 30 seconds. Didn't work.

Snort. The idea I had (interviews) was snapped up by someone a month or so before I had thought of it. If I can think of a unique twist I'll think about it.

I just use a Logitech USB headset and Microsoft Voice Recorder. Then I mix in the audio with visuals etc. in Windows Movie Maker.

The good news is, the headset worked fine and this time Audacity was able to remove the noise.

The bad news is that the headset is too small for my skull.

Yep. I tried that too. Better but still no good, unless I like having a mike stuck in my left nostril or mouth.
