Re: The TektonTV Thread
I have some advice that you could consider.
Put any links you refer to in the filmclip in the description of your Youtube videos. People on YT are as lazy as they can get, and I can guarantee you that you will lose a substantial amount of visits to the links in question, just because people feel like they don't have the time to type in the link themselves, but would rather prefer that the link was clickable. So far as I know you only have provided a link in the description for the clip "The Mithra Buster".
But then again I highly doubt anyone so lazy as the people I refer to could actually understand what you're writing in the first place. I fear it would take too much mental effort on their part.
Also, if you have videos that are interrelated it would be a good idea to crosslink them with eachother, or make a playlist out of them, or both, to increase the chance of someone viewing more of your videos if they happen to stumble upon one of them.
Also, there is no reason to limit your YT friends to only your actual friends, so if you have the time you should seek out people to befriend, and give them a friend request, usually they will just accept without questioning. The reason of course would be to raise the amount of views you are getting.
And lastly, there are no such thing as too many tags, as long as they are relevant to the issue (and the relevance may be an extremely contrived one even
) , So use as many of those as possible.
And of course, these are just suggestions if your goal is to get your YT videos as many views as possible. If these aren't your goals then I suggest you ignore the advice.

Listen to the Chaw.
***Rest in peace, Curtmudgeon!***
"I hate Manwe's posts because I hate babies and America." --Augustine2004, August 6, 2011
Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'
The Words of Húrin and Morgoth, "The Children of Húrin" by J.R.R. Tolkien

Re: The TektonTV Thread
Befriending people who run channels dedicated to apologetics gives you more "awzum points", than say befriending people with channels that focus on make-up. :P
Also, it could be a good idea to ask any of the friends on YT that you do know atleast a little more closely to link to your channel or any of your videos if they happen to have videos of their own that are somehow related to the issues in your videos. Or even if the videos in question doesn't have anything to do with eachother.
EDIT- So basically, I'm just telling you to be a shameless advertiser.

Re: The TektonTV Thread
Sounds good on the surface. However:
*Based on my stats, they ignore that link too (and all the others that are direct).
*About 5% are bothering to type in the links, which is about as many as I'd expect to be interested in a more detailed case.
But I'll experiment by offering both types on the next film that requires one (which won't be the next one up, but the one after). We'll see if there's any major statistical difference.
True that! But then again I highly doubt anyone so lazy as the people I refer to could actually understand what you're writing in the first place. I fear it would take too much mental effort on their part.
I do have playlists going though none are that large yet. Also, if you have videos that are interrelated it would be a good idea to crosslink them with eachother, or make a playlist out of them, or both, to increase the chance of someone viewing more of your videos if they happen to stumble upon one of them.
I plan to do that when I have a few more vids up...say about 50. Which should be by the end of 2011 at the rate I'm going. Or earlier. Also, there is no reason to limit your YT friends to only your actual friends, so if you have the time you should seek out people to befriend, and give them a friend request, usually they will just accept without questioning. The reason of course would be to raise the amount of views you are getting.
Librarians are specialists in tagging. And lastly, there are no such thing as too many tags, as long as they are relevant to the issue (and the relevance may be an extremely contrived one even
) , So use as many of those as possible.
But mainly for libraries and serious researchers. Feel free to suggest more for each of the vids, as I gather you know more about the YT environment than I do.

Re: The TektonTV Thread
Well, considering that you don't have that many views on any of your videos yet, except the "Beat the Bible Scholar!" clip I highly doubt that you will get any significant difference between the two models. I think you would need a higher viewing rate to make any sort of reliable statistics on the results.
Not that I really expect that the percentage of visitors to the links would really grow that much with a higher viewing rate, but atleast the statistics would be more reliable. Right now the average number of views on your videos are 600 views, and I don't think you can get any reliable statistics from that.
Well that's good then.
Well, I'm sure you have good reasons for the decision to wait, but I must say I'm curious to the reason why.
How about "Hot" "Sexy" and "Babe"?
(I'm sure you know what videos I'm referring to
)
But seriously though, for the pagan copycat theories I think you could use tags like "Zeitgeist" and the like.
For the hell video I gather that tags like "torture" "torment" "fire" "eternity" "darkness" "metaphorical" "image" and so on would be good tags.
Any of the videos could fall under the "christian" and "christianity" tags.
Also, you know how YT will give you a dropdown list with suggestions when you search for a video? Well, YT gives those suggestions based on the popularity of the search words in question, and it seems that both JP Holding and James Patrick Holding are popular enough to get suggested if you seek for anything that starts with "JP Hol" or "James Patrick H" . So you could think about using your name and any shortened forms of your name as tags.
Also, you could ask your "fanclub" to pass your videos along if they have websites/pages/blogs of their own, or on FB if they have accounts there.
About me knowing more about the YT environment than you could be true, but I think the difference is negligible. These are just things I've picked up here and there while watching clips on YT, I don't have any sort of systematic knowledge about these things.

Re: The TektonTV Thread
Sounds like you have everything figured out.

I do have some additional tips if you haven't thought of them already.
1. Both the title and description should use keywords that are relevant to the video in question. Try to figure out what keywords people would most likely use when searching for the relevant matter in question. (I'm pretty sure you have thought about this already, but just in case.)
2. Try to get people to like your video. Your "fanclub" (
) can help you with this. Force everyone of them to register an account with youtube and favorite and like every last of your videos.
3. Try to get lots of comments on your videos. The more comments you have the higher up in the search results it will get. hundreds of comments are good, thousands are even better, and tens of thousands are "epicsauce" (It seems like you already have a lively discussion going on in some of your videos, but the more the merrier.
)
4. Check out the statistics of your videos from time to time. It can be useful to know from where your videos got referred from and from which one of the referrals you got most of your views from.
For example your video "It's Time to Go, ProfMTH!" has gotten the most of its views (65 as of now) by being referred to by this website: http://dekodet.blogspot.com/2010/12/...debatt-20.html
It's also most popular in Norway. Go figure.

Re: The TektonTV Thread
Yeah, same principle here as when I put in the Title block in HTML for articles. Shhh...that's supposed to be a secret!!

Ya'll heard the man. DO IT! Your cult leader speaketh!2. Try to get people to like your video. Your "fanclub" (
) can help you with this. Force everyone of them to register an account with youtube and favorite and like every last of your videos.
I think I know the parties responsible for that....It's also most popular in Norway. Go figure.
Added in keywords just now.

Re: The TektonTV Thread
Hey, maybe to chuck in an idea.
As I was reading again one of your parody comics (This one to be precise http://www.tektoonics.com/etc/parody/djtoon01.html ), it just hit me, what if you did a parody video, but Top Gear style? ^^
The cars being represented as arguments, whilst we have 3 protagonists "test drive" the arguments, commenting and ripping the rubbish vehicles/arguments and biasingly praising the fast and rocksteady ones. ^^ Rocksteady British accents in the mold of Clarkson, Hammond, and May. Not to mention emulating their sense of sarcasm and humor would be most fun. And just for more fun, you could emulate their far fetched arguments that put rubbish cars/arguments to hilarious tests. ^^
What you think?
