      What have we learned?

      According to Wikipedia Online, ...
'Jesus taught that death can come upon anyone, regardless of how sinful they are. He went on to teach that the need for all people to repent is the true lesson from such tragedies'

      Attachment 86360

      What have we learned?

      Eric J. Sawyer

That perhaps Christianity has had a lot more to say about sin than Jesus did, and that perhaps Christianity hasn't been right.

      Hi Christopher,
Jesus endorsed the Law and the Prophets, and there was certainly enough about our fallen condition in them. ( check out my first post today - Is This Me? )

RBerman, has a thread in Comparitive Languages, calling for definitions of 'Sin' . As a friend once said to me, 'when you shine a light into the darkness, the creatures of darkness scuttle off, to hide from the light of truth.'

The fact is, no-one wants to talk about it. We want to keep the subject, cheery.
Yet some of the most amazing research has been done, into the dark-side of human nature. We are still looking, and still wondering what it is. There are books, voluminous tomes about it, and still we want to try and pretend that it is not something we have to learn to deal with.... To end the tyranny of 'sin'
It's results we deal with everyday, and how we manage it, is apparently going to influence what sort of life we live in the next world.

It should be the BIG NEWS HEADLINE, but it is always found in a tiny lonely corner of some Theological Forum ...

      .....sin

      Sincerely,
      Eric J. Sawyer

Christianity is quick to latch onto what Jesus said about the sin and slow to listen to what he said about the sinner.

We are real gung ho on "go thou and sin no more" and not real big on "he has no sin cast the firs stone."

      Metacrock,

      Question 1:
What did Jesus teach about 'SIN'?

      Question 2:
What did Jesus teach about the 'SINNER'?

      Sincerely,
      Eric J. Sawyer

      Re: What have we learned?

      Yo t-sinners,

I only noticed now, that I did not link to the Wikipedia reference, in my opening post. So here it is...

      'Tower of Siloam' @ Wikipedia

Here is the passage, I was thinking of, at the time....

      Luke 13:1-5 ASV

1 Now there were some present at that very season who told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

2 And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they have suffered these things?

3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish.

4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem?

5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
So let's try and enter into that moment, and not assault the thread, with too many other scenarios. In other words, let's try and stay focussed, on that event....and then ask the question...

      'What Have We Learned ?'

      Sincerely,
      Eric J. Sawyer

O Crocodile, you need to spend more time in the Scriptures, and less time feeding your philosophy ;)

      Good for you, Metacrock.

      +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Now we have dispensed with the formalities, shall we to the passage from Luke.

      Attachment 86362

      +)(+

I only noticed now, that I did not link to the Wikipedia reference, in my opening post. So here it is...

      'Tower of Siloam' @ Wikipedia

5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Here is a Modern Textual rendering of the same...MSG

About that time some people came up and told him about the Galileans Pilate had killed while they were at worship, mixing their blood with the blood of the sacrifices on the altar. Jesus responded, "Do you think those murdered Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans? Not at all. Unless you turn to God, you, too, will die. And those eighteen in Jerusalem the other day, the ones crushed and killed when the Tower of Siloam collapsed and fell on them, do you think they were worse citizens than all other Jerusalemites? Not at all. Unless you turn to God, you, too, will die."

So let's try and enter into that moment, and not assault the thread with any vain philosophies of men, with too many other scenarios. In other words, let's try and stay focussed, on that event....and then ask the question...
