Yup, I was gonna mention UNIX, but I knew that the first liar never stands a chance, so ..




(kidding, but, yeah, I used UNIX on a system that ran our cattle auction)

I have been trying to remember what the PDP-11 ran. I think it was RSX. We had VT100 terminals and actual teletype terminals too.

The PDP took up an entire room with a CPU and a couple of disk drives. They were the size of washing machines.

We had removable disk drives the size of trash can lids too. I think they held 10 megabytes.

In fact I have a photo of it from our old company brochure:

Cool... and at one point, I worked for Lanier Business Products who introduced the "No Problem Typewriter" -- one of the first major 'text editors'...

The neat thing was that it had 2 disk drives -- one for the program disk, and the other for the data disk -- both EIGHT INCH FLOPPY DRIVES!

This one looks like it has the standard 5 1/4 floppies --- the earlier ones had vertical 8" drives.

I use Linux Ubuntu on my work computer dual booting Windows 7 now. I have a home server running Linux Ubuntu server edition, my wife's computer is dual booting Ubuntu and Windows 7, my daughter's computer is running Ubuntu 9.10 and Vista, my son is running Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows xp, and my 6, 9, and 10 year old children share a computer running MINT. We are definitely a linux family. I also made sure my web hosting server was running Linux as well. No need to try to run a website on a Windows server.

once I got past 20 I had to borrow my friend's fingers and toes. We all cooperated back then. But now, with my peg leg and hook, I can only count to 12.
