Re: Introduction to Heavy Christian Music!
It looks like i have listening problems again, lol.
This time it's only a word, but it's very important; at 2:48 of "Darkness, part two" by Virgin Black, Rowan (the singer) says a word which i can't understand... cause it's in growl. Help please!! :) Here's the link, at the right time of the song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...HQ2Q7k0#t=168s"Without strong traditions of honor and virtue-conducive institutions, democracy is passive-aggressive savagery, each person out for himself or herself, but by whining rather than beating; and in such a society the most savagely passive-aggressive begin to dominate others. This can, however, be resisted, dampened, or redirected by traditions and institutions".

What do you mean?

Could you post the lyrics of the song as you understand them? Context might help.

Re: Introduction to Heavy Christian Music!
Before that, he says "Trembling, quantus tremor est futurus [How many shivers will there be] - Fading, judgment is at hand - Darkness, darkness (x2)"
After the mysterious word (
), the lyrics are "My God, save us from death. Sorrow ever awaits on joy - and has rendered me to... (pieces). Requiem, Kyrie, Requiem [Rest, oh Lord, rest]".
"Without strong traditions of honor and virtue-conducive institutions, democracy is passive-aggressive savagery, each person out for himself or herself, but by whining rather than beating; and in such a society the most savagely passive-aggressive begin to dominate others. This can, however, be resisted, dampened, or redirected by traditions and institutions".

Re: Introduction to Heavy Christian Music!
I'm a little late here, but this is a great thread.
I'm an Antestor fan. Their newest album, Omen, was pretty great.
Here's some bands you may not have heard of:
Blood Covenant -- an Armenian symphonic black metal band. Lyrics aren't in English, but I think they're excellent.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OBElCaOVfk
A Hill to Die Upon -- death metal. Not my favorite style, but a great band. This is a cover of a hymn:

Slechtvalk -- black/viking metal. My first extreme metal band. Also, they have the coolest logo ever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_WMhcBF2QM
Illuminandi -- Gothic/folk metal, I guess. They'll probably be more to everyone's liking (I tend toward the heavy stuff).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn6Ou3JTPqQ
Royal Anguish -- melodic death metal. Their material is pretty tough to find.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPbsHyZzvWo
Vardoger -- folk black metal. This band is crazy hard to find, and they only had one 5-song release (plus another track on a compilation), but it was really good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDJ7RjnPg4s
This last one is pretty brutal. You've been warned.
Wintersoul -- technical black metal. The thing that hooked me with these guys is the drumming.

I could probably come up with more recommendations, if anybody's curious. I've made lots of great discoveries lately.
Awesome thread, Requiem, and excellent first choice!

Re: Introduction to Heavy Christian Music!
Just because this topic excites me:
Divine Symphony -- symphonic black metal from Brazil. Their albums, too, are rather hard to find.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAmJ-UEYugc
Holy Blood -- Celtic black metal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywVXu1L2AlM
Nephesh -- symphonic black metal. A little too bombastic for my taste, but they're skilled. I'd buy their next album.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYQkqLQOmeE
Kekal -- very weird experimental metal from Indonesia. You can download three free albums from their website, too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZgtjayM8ro
Immortal Souls -- melodic death metal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1sOAZGHcFU
Evroklidon -- black metal. Very purist.

Re: Introduction to Heavy Christian Music!
Thank you, Adam!
Didn't know that Antestor had a new album coming out! Me, i'm still waiting for Virgin Black's forthcoming Requiem - Pianissimo.
