      October 2010 Screwballs

Primed and ready for tomorrow (or today in some parts of the world).

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

      Re: October 2010 Screwballs

Bart Ehrman has another book coming out in March that atheists are going to love. The title of the book is Forged: Writing in the Name of God-why the Bible's Authors Are Not Who We Think They Are.

Here's a description of the book:

Description: "In FORGED New York Times bestselling author, Bart Ehrman, reveals another hidden scandal of the Bible. For centuries, scholars have known that not all of the books in the New Testament are authentic while the general public has been blissfully unaware. The books of the New Testament are widely assumed to be written accounts of Jesus's life by those who knew him best. However, if the Gospels and letters were not written by memebers of Jesus's inner circle--but by later writers with differing agendas in rival communitites--then the authority of the Bible collapses. Based on new, original research, Ehrman takes the reader on a journey to the ancient world and the forgery battles that raged throughout the Roman Empire. The popular myth is that "writing in the name of another" was a common, accepted practice in antiquity. Not so argues Ehrman. Forgery was as scandalous then as it is now. And yet, at a time when all documents and letters where copied by hand and circulated freely with little or no authorial control, identifying who actually penned a piece of writing-be it political, historical, or religious-was fraught with uncertainty. FORGED exposes the forged letters written in the name of Jesus's disciples for the expressed purpose of gaining acceptance in the early church...which is exactly what happened and why we have the Bible we read today"--

      Ehrman speaks with forked tongue!

When he is writing "popular" books he sprouts nonsense like the above, but when he's dealing with scholars, he admits that he agrees with them.

Now now. Let's not dismiss Ehrman. If it wasn't for him, who would the new atheists be able to cite?

Ehrman is an odd character. For some reason Ehrman has said the following about the new atheists:

"If somebody attacked science with as little knowledge, they’d be laughed off the map."

That means informed new atheist members such as myself have to be carefull how we quote him. Im not sure why ehrman, being the great scholar that he is, doesnt embrace jesus mythacism. Im also at a loss as to why he doesnt praise The God Delusion when Dawkins bases most of his arguments against the historical evidence for jesus on Ehrmans own works. I suppose this is a classic example of how christian scholars bully atheist scholars into feeling they have to criticise the new atheists in order to protect there own reputation.

Because Ehrman would rather not look like a complete pillock.

Not a screwball. Found two articles by Stan at Atheism Analyzed quite interesting. First one is his challenge to atheists to prove that there is no God and the second one about Atheism being a religion.

DJ's recent blog post deserves to be nominated in over two months. Do yourself a favor and just take my word for it. Don't look yourself. And if you do, make sure you're alone within a fifty mile radius.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

One wonders if MacGrath (sp) will endorse DJ's latest stench.

I'd like to see how happy Loftus' blasphemy day is after he dies and meets his Maker.

He probably try to sell his book to God and still deny His existence. Besides, Hell doesn't want rabble like him lowering its property value.
