"If you can ever make any major religion look absolutely ludicrous, chances are you haven't understood it"
-Ravi Zacharias, The New Age: A foreign bird with a local walk
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
1 Corinthians 16:13

***Rest in peace, Curtmudgeon!***
"I hate Manwe's posts because I hate babies and America." --Augustine2004, August 6, 2011
Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'
The Words of Húrin and Morgoth, "The Children of Húrin" by J.R.R. Tolkien

You think you're being funny here? You're telling the truth. The restaurant had that as their placemat at every table. Mrs H found it very useful for getting every morsel out of that shell (and she did).
At $16.99 you'd better bet it should come with instructions. And two AA batteries.

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

More like:
Attachment 88078Crab Battle
noun
Words uttered to incite an all in brawl. Whoever says the words 'Crab Battle' will usually be spear tackled to the ground by anyone else present, and all parties will then engage in a fight to the death.
Reality untouchable, transparent, invisible to our fixed, restricted fields of vision. Existence taken for granted, absolute. Possessed, owned, controlled by the common sense-infected rational gaze, onward forever we walk among the ignorant. Never stray from the common lines.

There's an interesting psychology regarding the impetus behind which we find ourselves urged... nay, compelled, to read someone's entire signature.

Day 3 (Sunday, October 10)
Starting today we got a routine going where we'd drive mostly on back country roads looking for good photo ops as well as good places to take short hikes. We started by going up 95 from Bangor and exiting near Millinocket. So far that's the loneliest stretch of interstate I've ever seen but I haven't been to Montana yet either.
Then we took a variety of back roads on the photo-hiking mission.
Our stops included:
http://www.mainerec.com/katahdin.asp...04&PageNum=204 -- the Katahdin Iron Works. 19th century iron processing facility (see pic 1 below). The ranger here looked like Santa, waxed handlebar mustache included.
Lily Bay State Park -- one of ME's more remote facilities, on Moosehead Lake, a fairly large lake up there (see pic 2)
Attean Pond, near Jackman, ME -- see pic 3. You can see over 30 miles, all the way into Canada, as well as get a nice view of some phone wires.
Along the way we also discovered (pic 4) an interesting historical marker about Benedict Arnold.
We closed the day staying in Wilton, ME and had dinner at this local fave:
http://www.thegranarybrewpub.com/
I went for the Chicken and Chorizo del Trio and Mrs H had the Mate's Roll.
This was also one of only 2 days I got to check email, though the terminal at the hotel had an annoying tendency to be unable to ring up webmail after I'd answered only 4 messages.
I did not check in here at all, as promised.
