Bonhoeffer was a summa cum laude graduate in theology and achieved his doctorate at the age of 21! He participated in the German Resistance Movement against nazism and was involved in assassination plans to kill Hitler.

Bonhoeffer did not justify his actions:
"when a man takes guilt upon himself in responsibility, he imputes his guilt to himself and no one else. He answers for it.... Before other men he is justified by dire necessity; before himself he is aquitted by his conscience but before God he hopes only for grace"

Personally it has always been a great comfort to me that in fact there were, be it very few, German christian theologians who were publically against nazism.

I really prefer to refer to Bonhoeffer than to imagine what I would do if I could kill Hitler. Here is a man who did instead of imagined.
Very well said Hannah. Dietrich Bonhoeffer is one of the few people I consider to be a hero of mine. I started to post a reply in this thread, but you said what I wanted to say, better than I could have said it.

Well done!
