Objective truth is a racist myth

College Students Claim Objective 'Truth' Is A Racist 'Myth'

After outgoing Pomona College President David Oxtoby sent a school-wide email rebuking the actions of violent protesters attempting to shut down conservative journalist Heather Mac Donald's speech, three self-identified "Black students" triggered by the pro-First Amendment stance penned a letter to Oxtoby, condemning his words, and, yes, openly labeling "truth" a racist "myth."

"We, few of the Black students here at Pomona College and the Claremont Colleges, would like to address several of the points made in your 'Academic Freedom and Free Speech' email sent out to the entire student body on April 7, 2017 in response to a student protest against Heather Mac Donald’s talk at Claremont McKenna College’s (CMC) Athenaeum," opens the letter.

As the letter continues, the students explain that free speech has been "appropriated by hegemonic institutions" and should ultimately be curtailed because "it has given those who seek to perpetuate systems of domination a platform to project their bigotry."

It remains unclear as to who would be deciding which speech is kosher and which is not, but, presumably, their non-binary snowflake feelings would dictate such.

    What could possibly go wrong?

"Thus, if 'our mission is founded upon the discovery of truth,' how does free speech uphold that value?" the Pomona students ask.

Then comes the galling truth-is-a-racist-myth rant (emphasis added):

Historically, white supremacy has venerated the idea of objectivity, and wielded a dichotomy of ‘subjectivity vs. objectivity’ as a means of silencing oppressed peoples. The idea that there is a single truth–’the Truth’–is a construct of the Euro-West that is deeply rooted in the Enlightenment, which was a movement that also described Black and Brown people as both subhuman and impervious to pain. This construction is a myth and white supremacy, imperialism, colonization, capitalism, and the United States of America are all of its progeny. The idea that the truth is an entity for which we must search, in matters that endanger our abilities to exist in open spaces, is an attempt to silence oppressed peoples.

My goodness! The really sad thing is that I'm no longer surprised by such inane opinions...

Someone needs to ask them if what they said is objectively true.

Thankfully, their opinion is by their own standard subjectively true.
I cannot be blamed if it doesn't match my truth.
    Therefore, I readily dismiss it.

Actually YOU put Trump in the White House. He wouldn't have gotten 1% of the vote if it wasn't for the widespread spiritual and cultural devastation caused by progressive policies. There's no "this country" left with your immigration policies, your "allies" are worthless and even more suicidal than you are and democracy is a sick joke that I hope nobody ever thinks about repeating when the current order collapses. - Darth_Executor striking a conciliatory note in Civics 101

I crack up at the part about free speech:
"Free speech, a right many freedom movements have fought for, has recently become a tool appropriated by hegemonic institutions. It has not just empowered students from marginalized backgrounds to voice their qualms and criticize aspects of the institution, but it has given those who seek to perpetuate systems of domination a platform to project their bigotry."

I don't think they know what free speech is. They think it is only for THEM to use and not for "those who seek to ... project their bigotry"

Surprise! It means EXACTLY that they can project their bigotry or anything else they want. Because FREE SPEECH. duh.

I think the college should kick them out for being too stupid to be in college. They obviously did not pass the entrance exam.

And just check out the string of buzzwords in this paragraph:

"The notion of discourse, when it comes to discussions about experiences and identities, deters the ‘Columbusing’ of established realities and truths (coded as ‘intellectual inquiry’) that the institution promotes. Pomona cannot have its cake and eat it, too. Either you support students of marginalized identities, particularly Black students, or leave us to protect and organize for our communities without the impositions of your patronization, without your binary respectability politics, and without your monolithic perceptions of protest and organizing."

What the heck does that even mean in English? "Give us our way or else?"

    what the hell is "Columbusing?"

Ironically, by arguing against the notion of objective truth, he cuts the legs out from under his own argument.
Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd

Than a fool in the eyes of God

    what.
We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore on Christ's behalf: 'Be reconciled to God!!'
