The spineless Chancellor canceled - again!

Officials at the University of California at Berkeley canceled conservative commentator Ann Coulter’s April 27 event on Tuesday, citing security concerns and Coulter’s safety.

UC Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks said police have “very specific intelligence regarding threats that could pose a grave danger to” Coulter, according to an Associated Press report.

Ann Coulter said Wednesday that she is canceling her planned speech at the University of California, Berkeley, because she had lost the backing of conservative groups that had initially sponsored her appearance.

Ms. Coulter, in a message to The New York Times, said, “It’s a sad day for free speech.”

Despite insisting that she would go to Berkeley regardless — even after the university said it could not accommodate her on the date and time it had initially scheduled her because of threats of violence — Ms. Coulter said she did not see how she could go forward. The school said she could speak only at a later date and an earlier time of day, when there were likely to be fewer students on campus and less of a likelihood for violent outbreaks.

Late on Tuesday, the conservative group that was helping Ms. Coulter in her legal efforts to force Berkeley to host her, Young America’s Foundation, said it could no longer participate. “Young America’s Foundation will not jeopardize the safety of its staff or students,” the group said.

Without any support, Ms. Coulter said, she was left with little choice. “Everyone who should believe in free speech fought against it or ran away,” she said.

Not necessarily. And you don't have to tell them you're conservative. Some liberals don't understand they're gonna be mowed down like weeds in a civil war but others do so there's no way of telling how they'll react. Fauxcohantas and Bernie Sanders both stood up for Coulter, for example.

Trump's mind wanders like a goldfish. He needs some pressure to do the right thing, especially since evil people always have guys working politicians from the other end. Calling your congressman -> Congressman (who is far more likely to get a message to trump than any of us) calls Trump. This should be a slam-dunk issue for Trump too since progressives can't openly oppose him on it without losing a lot of moderates.

Legally speaking though, there is nothing they can do to Berkeley. They were willing to let her speak, and only cancelled because of threats from outside groups. They have an obligation to keep their students and guests safe and the police basically can't stop these antifa terrorists without endangering others. At least not without a lot of planning.

There is plenty they can do. It doesn't have to be just the school (nor should it be, the school's behavior is just a symptom). The police department there definitely needs an investigation, as does the mayor (who is a fan of By All Means Necessary, a cult-like antifa group). There is overwhelming evidence the mayor asked the cops to let antifas attack right wing protesters too.

But whatever, you guys keep making excuses for why you can't do anything, just don't cry when the Republican Party is replaced by the New National Socialists and you're living in a war zone.

I will never understand why Ann Coulter (and other conservatives like her) will bash secular universities, yet wish to speak at them sooooo badly -- outside the speaking fees of course.

Honestly, after years of her bile towards universities and the young people that attend them, what does she expect?
