I think "more perfect" simply means closer to perfection than previous attempts.
Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd

wrong again Starlight It states that "The rights of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed." state government are not the people they are the servants of the people.

The people means the people not the governement. the constition was framed to put limits on the Government not the people.

Stop trying to teach your grandmother how to suck eggs you don't no jack about America and our Constitution.

With another originalist the court you will soon learn what our Constitution really says. Not that you will accept that since you are not a true scholar.

I think if I were to write a constitution it would be close to our current version with the following additions:

1: Judges are not granted the power to change the meaning of words.
2: Judges are not allowed to find rights not explicating stated in this document.
3: Judges cannot take statement in this document and interpret to mean the exact opposite.

I realize that would take all the fun out of being a judge for the entire 9th circuit court and Ruth Ginsburg, but then I'm not too concerned about those people having fun.
Actually YOU put Trump in the White House. He wouldn't have gotten 1% of the vote if it wasn't for the widespread spiritual and cultural devastation caused by progressive policies. There's no "this country" left with your immigration policies, your "allies" are worthless and even more suicidal than you are and democracy is a sick joke that I hope nobody ever thinks about repeating when the current order collapses. - Darth_Executor striking a conciliatory note in Civics 101

I... kinda agree... kinda. At least Dimbulb tries to support his arguments even if his sources are often absurdly biased and hilariously wrong. Tassmoron just spouts the latest liberal talking point as if it's an argument in and of itself.

I think your disrespect of Starlight by using an insulting name is counter productive to the goal having a civilized discussion. It's just uncalled for, particularly when he hasn't been insulting others in this thread.

I usually disagree with Starlight, but he's not an idiot and I actually enjoy seeing him voice his opinions in this forum. It's kind of difficult to have a decent debate around here without reasonably intelligent people who disagree.

Perhaps we could try NOT to drive people of dissenting views away? Thanks.

No one wants to know about your faith or unbelief, your orders are to perform the act of obedience on the spot. Then you will find yourself in the situation where faith becomes possible and where faith exists in the true sense of the word." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..."

The historical idea behind the 2nd amendment was that the slave-states were operating militias to keep the slaves from escaping, and that there was a fear that the federal government could possibly pass a ban on firearms as an indirect way to free the slaves. So the 2nd amendment bans the federal government from banning firearms, and says the states can run militias, in order to block that indirect path to banning slavery. Due to the really really dubious legal process called Incorporation, the restrictions on the federal government in the constitution have been gradually reapplied over time by the judiciary to state governments, so now (very recently, as of 2008/2010) the 2nd amendment that originally literally gave the state governments power to "regulate" firearms has been creatively re-interpreted by the judiciary as meaning that state governments can't ban firearms in the same way that the federal government can't ban firearms.
