There are schools like that in my area as well. I'm definitely not considering them. The YEC thing would be an issue for me. Also, I'm pretty sure they would try as hard as they could to convert my son to their religion by telling him that he'd be going to hell for being Orthodox.

Both catholic and protestant private schools typically have education as their first mission. After all, they need to have people paying tuition to keep the lights on. I imagine that, for all but the most conservative fundamentalist schools, your kid will get more crap from other kids than they will from staff. Shoot, the teachers my school has hired out of catholic schools are either nominally catholic, or not-at-all.

As for the Asperger's issue you mentioned earlier, the school won't have to follow state law with respect to special education. They have to follow more general civil rights law, but the specific protections afforded by SpED law are not binding on private schools operated solely through private funding. If you think your kid has any special needs, then I would urge you to weigh the cost of annual tuition vs. the cost of rent in the better neighborhood. That said, apartment kids in upscale schools take a lot of hell.

It is a concern. From what I've read, Catholic schools tend to be less pushy and more respectful of boundaries. The school that I visited is about 40% non-Catholic students. So there's a sizable amount of kids that my son would be grouped with. If it were to happen, I would definitely remove him from the school.
