      iPad & VNC

There's a 80% chance I'll purchase an iPad tomorrow against all common sense (new ones are expected in a few months), and if I do, I'm probably going to download the VNC app and use a dedicated ad-hoc connection when I use it to control my computer (in order to cut down on lag). Has anyone used it before over a normal wifi connection? How well does it fare?

I realize this is an old thread, but I like commenting on tech questions. :)

VNC is much slower than RDP, on a local network VNC is sufficient, and I think it actually works better on a touchscreen than with a mouse. If you are using VNC over the web, it can be pretty slow depending on the speed of each network and the traffic on those networks. I use it between Linux machines on a daily basis.

I'm not familiar with RDP, what are it's advantages?

I am using a small on ipod from apple. I want to know what might be reason of its lower speed. I don't know why but speed was reduced from last 15 days. I really need solution because I am used to be with my ipod most of the time.

RDP is the windows protocol for remote control of another computer. If you are trying to remotely control a windows computer RDP is what you will use. VNC can be used with windows, but it is primarily a unix protocol to be used with Linux or mac. RDP is much faster and smoother but VNC is much more secure.
