Re: Anti-Depressants and Clinical Depression
I don't believe clinical depression is merely emotional without a chemical basis, but your advice is very good for the recovery phase and for maintaining after you've achieved balance. I don't know about "fight someone" though unless it's in Warcraft or something

I haven't read Pilgrim's Regress. I think it and A grief observed are the only lewis books I haven't read yet. I am saving a Grief Observed but I really should read RegressProlonged Trauma Damages the Parts of the Brain that Handle Language!

Re: Anti-Depressants and Clinical Depression
You are indeed a nice fellow.
Ps, I read 'Pilgrim's Regress', and while it is a fine book it did nothing much for my depression. 'A Grief Observed' is intensely personal. If any book is going to help depression I'd recommend 'Without Feathers' bv Woody Allen. Laugh out loud funny.

Re: Anti-Depressants and Clinical Depression
Well, don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Advice can be helpful if taken in the right context, whether it addresses the crux of the problem or not (except for "fight someone"). I always felt condemned for years thinking that if i just pull myself up out of the dumps somehow, i'd be ok. I still fight blaming myself and wishing that i could do something simple and make it all get better. So even those suffering from depression could be the bearers of misunderstanding about their own situation, evenif they recognize it for what it is. I have been for years.

Re: Anti-Depressants and Clinical Depression
My wife is on it and she does well. Watch out for the polypsych meds. See Psych regularly. Many psych meds if stopped abruptly will 'cause really nasty side effects.
I was a psych nurse at UofW Medical Center for 12 years so if anyone needs a PM opinion I'd be glad to help.

Re: Anti-Depressants and Clinical Depression
im on celexa, but i been on it without a pysche for awhile heh, and my dosages have been up and down depending on availibilty. but i got healthcare now from a good job so going to get set up with one. at the moment, taking 40mils a day, when before was up to 60, or if short onm them 20, its horrible i do that. my emotoions are weird and i feel weird most of the time. like..uh..flat yea, anger sometimes but not true happiness, or anything. also i have no concentration hardly, i feel light headed sometimes because of anxiety etc.
i just need to get straigght again.
but the celexa, when i was taking it correctly, did work. i felt normal just about. i have chronic depression, anxiety, etc and panic attacks but i have mastered those too a point. i havent had a panic attack for years even though soemtimes i feel it welling up. i do however have anxiety attacks (without the hyperventilation) and that is some weird stuff sometimes lol. but i kind of get that under control too.The rambler of ramblers!

Re: Anti-Depressants and Clinical Depression
Hang in there my friend. It will good to be able to get on a steay dosage again. It this all you take? I'm now taking 200mg of Pristiq daily; and 2mg (divided throughout the day) of Clonazepam. Out of all the various types and combinations, this seems to be working pretty well for me for now. But no meds or combinations has been perfect. If I get really weirded out, I take a very low dose of Abilify. But I really hate the side effects; and avoid it all costs.

Re: Anti-Depressants and Clinical Depression
When I was depressed my doc put me on Celexa which did nothing. I also tried Paxil which did nothing except make me feel numb, which was just as horrible as feeling sad and hopeless. But I think everyone reacts do different meds in different ways. My depression was a social and spiritual issue and not a neurological one, which is probably why I didn't really react much to any of the meds.
