      CHurch of Laodecia found

      http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/n.p...key-2011-01-31

Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay visited the ancient city of Laodicea on Sunday in Denizli province and was briefed by Professor Celal Şimşek, head of the excavation team. The professor said they have discovered the Laodicea Church, one of the seven mentioned in the Bible. Şimşek said the church from the fourth century A.D. was found by underground radar search, a system they have tried this year for the first time. “The major part of the church, which is built on an area of 2,000 square meters, has kept its original [status].”
OK, it's kinda geeky, but still cool.

I'm not sure if we want to find Paul's epistle to Laodecia... It would be a mess, but a lot of fun to watch...

Wait. Did they have church buildings then? When Paul wrote "to the church" it wasn't to a particular congregation but to a group of believers in a certain city. They weren't worshiping in church buildings they were worshiping in homes etc.

Yes, That would make sense. If this group and the local synagogue were on good terms.

It might have started out as a synagogue and turned into a church. According to the article it is dated from 4th century AD, which is quite a long time from the first century version of what the church might have been.

Can you imagine the Choas if Paul's letter to Laodecia were found?

Yeah, he mentions it in Colossians.

Also possible, I imagine, is that we have a fourth century edifice built atop the prior location of an established house church with a longer pedigree.

At the very least, wherever the Laodicean Christians were meeting in the first through third centuries, we've found where they were meeting in the fourth. Which is teh awesomes.

I can't imagine what "Choas" even is. I'd assume it's just a typo, but you capitalized it.

If Paul's letter to Laodicea were found, I'd read it.

Would it be considered for canon or no? I would say no because it would have been considered in the days that the canon was forming, right?

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

I don't think it would be, for the reason you mention. I can see some denominations possibly including it, but the current fractured state of Christianity and the independence of most publishers from any denominational control would make the status quo very difficult to overcome.
