Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

Isn't there a way to start WWIII that doesn't have me abandoning the good in my life?
You should take credit for your own strength. Do not let religion steal that from you; it is undignified. You are entitled to pride.

The suicide bomber also looks to God for strength. All these ideas about the heavenly father and so on are failures to take responsibility for your own actions.

Close. He's looking to his 70 virgins.

Because we're obviously all hard determinists.

According to Christian teachers, the essential vice, the utmost evil, is Pride. Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison:it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice:it is the complete anti-God state of mind. You have to remember that firstfloor is really, really good at saying the exact opposite of what is right. Every once in a while, he says something which is actually right in order to keep us on our toes.

None of those things indicate pride. They're beliefs which in themselves do not indicate pride. Having those beliefs might engender pride, but they're not cause of, or indication of pride.

You're the one who believes that we're no more than soulless animals, so if that was really the case you'd fit right in.

And this is why atheism is so easy, nothing to believe or defend except for the concept that a god does not exist. Nothing to die for and nothing to live for. A child's philosophy.

Not against pride, just against arrogance and hubris. It's kind of unfortunate that people haven't caught on to the idea that words change meaning from time to time. What pride meant in (and before) 1611, it no longer does.
1Cor 15:34 Come to your senses as you ought and stop sinning; for I say to your shame, there are some who know not God.

I think what FF's saying is that the religions demand conformity to it's "god-given" rules of morality, the problem being that they vary from religion to religion and denomination to denomination.
