I'm guessing this debate will be like Canada's hockey team facing the U.S. hockey team, or Canadian bacon vs. all other bacon, or Mossy's pin vs. its victim, or Manwe's mom vs. Manwe's face. Yep, I'm pretty sure JP will win.

Yup. Like I said, this one's for the Mrs being able to visit her uncle one last time. Not that I won't try, but I also won't go in thinking it'll make a diff in the big picture.

I'd amen your post but yo lunch already did, and if we both amened the same post, the whole universe would 'splode.

I still say this is pretty close to 50/50 in terms of the likelihood for either one of the debaters to win. Perhaps 55/45 for JP. But this doesn't mean I'd be terribly surprised if there will be a clear winner. The problem just is that I can't predict which one it'll be.

With the tiny amount of time permitted, a clear winner isn't likely on either side.

The truth on the subject is 100/0 on our side, but unfortunately, we can't bring it all up in just 15 and 10 minutes.

So the debate is tomorrow? The website doesn't give any info, in fact I find the website confusing. Can I stream it live or do I have to download it later? And what time is it at?

I'm organizing the debate for the church, and the point, as far as we're concerned, is not to change minds in one night. But we do want to get people thinking about issues like textual reliability. I know that many members of our church are unaware of the necessity of apologetics. And I'm willing to bet that the "free thinkers" who will be in attendance are largely unaware of the scholarship on the other side of the debate. I think those are good enough reasons to watch JP and Carrier trade blows.

I'll post up until Friday the 8th. After that I'll be out of touch until Wednesday as we visit Mrs H's uncle. Though I'll try to find a remote place to sign on if I can.

Re: Yes, I really am debating Richard Carrier...

My first blog post about the debate can be found at the linked page, just a few modest predictions. I'll write more following the fireworks.
There is no need to be worried by facetious people who try to make the Christian hope of 'Heaven' ridiculous by saying they do not want 'to spend eternity playing harps'. The answer to such people is that if they cannot understand books written for grown-ups, they should not talk about them.
