*Διά in the genitive in the temporal sense means not only, as in classical usage, duration (διὰ ὅλης νυκτός) or lapse of time after which something happens: δι᾿ ἡμερῶν "after some days" Mark 2:1, but also, which is not classical, the space of time within which something happens; in Mt 26:61 Christ can rebuild the temple διὰ τριῶν ἡμερῶν, which the Vulgate renders "post triduum", but John 2:19 has τρισὶν ἡμέραις. So too Acts 1:3; 16:9; 17:10; 23:31 (BG §115).Last edited by John Reece; May 1st 2011 at 02:05 PM.
