From Exodus to entering the land of Promise: Parallelism?

Is it possible to draw a biblical "parallel" between the events of Moses, including the entering of the promised Land, with our own (as well as all those before us) journey of salvation? If so: to what extent or depth does it align?

That's an interesting parallel. I kind of thought Exodus prefigured Christ. Moses leading people into the promised land, much like Christ leading His people into His Church for salvation.

Re: From Exodus to entering the land of Promise: Parallelism

      Aposphet,

Looking from that beginning, the "status" of Israel at that moment of time, "...house of bondage, land of death...", not so different from our own "status", prior to Christ? Captivity, bondage, death...until...the application of the blood?

There is a most definite "journey" I am looking to undertake with these events surrounding the Exodus, would you be interested in entertaining some of the possibilities?

I am inclined to think that the events that transpire, are brought to "light" through the revealing of the ministry of Christ.

      Thank you for your response,

      Bless,

      Dan

Re: From Exodus to entering the land of Promise: Parallelism

I suspect the parallels are found in our participation in Christ. Christ certainly echoed Israel's story in his own life and, some would hold, perfected where Israel failed. Since we are, by extension, called to follow him, it can be presumed that at least some echoes from Israel's story will occur. (Brought out of another existence, given a new covenant, promise of a new land to come...)

Biblically, Rom 6:1-4 reflects that story into NT baptism (as one example), as one clear parallel...

Did some more checking, and it seems that Romans 5-8 demonstrates the parallels you mentioned further than just the verse I previously mentioned...

Re: From Exodus to entering the land of Promise: Parallelism

Did something different this time, think it will work!

Some of the following events/items is what I had in mind between us and them (pre-post Christ):

Land of bondage / House of death
      Blood of the Lamb applied
      Death no longer having authority
Rejoicing at the defeat of enemies
Under the cloud and through the Sea
      Receiving the Law of God
      Led by the Pillar
      Provision in the wilderness

I would like to point out that we also are in the "wilderness" - BOTH - in this "fallen flesh" and this "fallen world"

Now for some notable thoughts relative to O.T. Israel:

Led by the Moses, who, was representative of the Law (see: Transfiguration)
The Law (Moses) could not take them "into" the Promised Land" (Yes he struck the rock "twice", but he also struck the Egyptian, broke the tablets - seems when God created him, he didn't create him perfect). This issue leads to an "indepth" discussion relative to "why" he didn't enter the Promise Land.
Israel would be led into the land by Joshua (See Heb. 4:8)
Israel was completely crossed over - before the Ark joined them on the far side.

Just some of the things - thanks for the "interest"

      Bless

"Lord, was it not You who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep; who made the depths of the sea a pathway for the redeemed to cross over?
