Re: What happened to the demons?
Hi Yo. How are you doing? Have not heard much from you lately, hope all is well with you.
Was reading your postings and just want to comment a little bit (for the fun of interacting with you which I sublimely enjoy as you may know)
Ad 1
All and the only word Jesus speaks in that full bible passage (Matt 8:28-34) is: Go.
Matt 8:32 And he said unto them, Go.
I believe you when you imply that for lawyers that single word is enough to turn that into a successful lawsuit to compensate the losses but then again, lawyers have the unfortunate tendancy to twist and turn every word in their advantage and not seldom they are hired exactly for that.
Ad 2
Matt 8:28 and when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes
The country of the Gergesenes (Gadarenes or Gerasenes) is said to be situated on the eastern side of the sea of Galilee and its cities Gerasa and Gadera are described as gentile cities, that is more Greek than Semitic. If I am not mistaken, both historically and archaeologically, Gerasa an Gadera are accounted for and now are the cities of Jerash and Umm Qais. It is generally assumed that this is why there would be swine around but I am sure you will challenge that assumption.Last edited by Cybelle Hawke; March 11th 2011 at 07:32 AM.

Re: What happened to the demons?
So, do we agree that at least in some Christian thought, demons can possess or enter animals?

"Saddam does not control the northern part of the country...We are able to keep his arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt." Condoleeza Rice April 2001(before 9/11)
“Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction. There is no doubt he is amassing them to use against our friends, against our allies, and against us.” Dick Cheney April 2002 (after 9/11)

Re: What happened to the demons?
Hi there, glad to hear from you as well!
1. Jesus, as I said before, is supposedly divine and thus reputed to be privy to things that no other human beings are. Therefore, he should have known which way the demons would run. So, he is responsible for the damages and should make recompense. Even if he did not know, he is still responsible for all the damages. I defy any lawyer to tell me differently!
Furthermore, before giving the go-ahead, the demons asked Jesus to dispatch them into the pigs and Jesus gave them their wish! That makes him culpable for the action of the demons and responsible for the demise of those swine!
Another salient point is that Jesus did not use the best means of dispatching those demons! I, a mere mortal, have a much better plan and that is to have them to simply vanish!
2. You are wrong to be "sure" that I will challenge you here because I will concede the point. That makes us even, I win point one and I'll give you point two.
Thanks for your input.

Re: What happened to the demons?
The pigs belonged to Jesus, as does everything else in the universe.
We don't know about the person who owned the pigs, for all we know he deserved to have his livelihood damaged. The story doesn't say so we can only speculate
We know few details about what demons are like other than they can talk, are bad, and can enter living things. For all we know they could have been idiots and thought they could survive in the pigs and didn't realize it would drive the pigs crazy.
There's no reason to have a concrete 'explanation' for every detail in the story. If you want to read between the lines and interpret this in the worst possible light, knock yourself out.Prolonged Trauma Damages the Parts of the Brain that Handle Language!

Asking what happened next is like breaking off in the middle of a sentence. I can go on and on and expound upon some great philosophical
I am more or less around.

Re: What happened to the demons?
All kidding aside, the demons were disembodied before the pigs, and of course would become disembodied once the pigs died. Where did they go? To Washington, of course

Re: What happened to the demons?
But Jesus would know. So the question is what did he gain by allowing them to go into the pigs.

Are you saying the demons “died” along with the pigs?
But the story does not seem to make any sense. If the demons went to the abyss, then what did Jesus gain by allowing them to kill the pigs? If they just left the pigs, then they would be free to inhabit other humans, so what has been gained?

Re: What happened to the demons?
No, asking what happened next is like asking if a story in the Bible makes sense. Apparently it doesn’t since not a single Christian in Tweb has been able to make sense of this.
