      Commodore re-releases the C64!!!

      yeesh!

      http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_C64.aspx

      Recreating the Legendary Commodore 64

It's back... and better than ever! The new Commodore 64 is a modern functional PC as close to the original in design as humanly possible. It houses a modern mini-ITX PC motherboard featuring a Dual Core 525 Atom processor and the latest nVidia ION2 graphics chipset. It comes in the original taupe brown/beige color, with other colors to follow.

      Unfortunately, it isn't C64 compatible...

Play all your favorite 8-bit era games within seconds of turning the Commodore 64 on, by either selecting the C64 icon from the boot menu to run a C64 emulator directly, or from a media center program within our own Commodore Operating System.

Note: Commodore OS 1.0, along with emulation functionality and classic game package, will be mailed to purchasers when available. In the meantime, units come with the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS operating system on CD ready to install.

Well, I guess they can only do so much if they want it to be a real computer and not just a nostalgic toy.

the burn notice commercial worked beautifully, the actual vid just froze. well played google-yxboom

Well they could have at least installed a commodore 64 emulator on it!

Oh, I see what you mean. I thought there was an emulator on it right out of the box and the bold was talking about something else

nope. they promise one, then in the very next paragraph tell you that they don't even have one yet.

basically they are just trying to cash in on the nostalgia value like you said. Just putting a cheapo computer into an old commodore 64 case and putting Linux on it. Looks like they are planning on doing the same thing with the Amiga (see the Check mark menu item at the top of the page)

Basically some company bought up the Commodore name and rights and is just trying to exploit the nostalgia.
