Advise on getting a new lappy
Ok guys I am needing advise on buying a new laptop.
I had a toshiba satellite and it was ok but I found it overheated and wasn't that good for playing games.
I need something I can play games like dragon age, mass effect on
Other than that just normal emails, Facebook etc.
I don't want a Mac so what else do you recommend?
What laptop do you have? Has it been reliable?
My husband is telling me to get a Sony what do you think?I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.

Re: Advise on getting a new lappy
hmmm no one knows of a good lapdog?
tried dell twice wouldn't give them a third go... first time was a desk top the disk drive broke down after about 10 months. had it fixed and again it broke down then other things started going wrong.
second time my ex bought my daughter a laptop and two weeks of having it the hard drive died and had to be taken out and replaced. after about another 10 months keys were coming off and things going wrong.
I saw an Alienware laptop that looked good but then fond out they are owned by dell.
so any suggestions on what to get or what NOT to get?I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.

Re: Advise on getting a new lappy
Games? Well, yeah, haven't got time for those myself, but setting up a Windows partition on a Mac is dead simple. I'd have real problems working without my Air, though. It fits in the bag that fits in the saddlebag; one connector is enough to put the display up onto the projectors for my classes. I laugh watching my colleagues pulling carts of books and papers from room to room. (Thinking about swapping to the IPad now that it's in its second generation, though.)
Mac prices are far more competitive nowadays, and besides, I monetize ease of use. If I have to spend 10 minutes looking for an email, or finding a file ... that's opportunity money out of my pocket. If I have to spent ten minutes a week updating my virus protection, that's more money gone. If I have to reformat my hard drive, ka-ching, ka-ching. Take it in for service, call a customer service rep? How much do you want to pay to save money? Buying Windows is like buying a used car ... you save money coming out of the lot, and then use up all your savings keeping it running.
Good luck on your searching, though.

Re: Advise on getting a new lappy
I have had a Sony Vaio laptop since 2004, until this past weekend. (I got a MacBook Pro.) My sony would get so over-heated it would almost scorch my legs, but maybe the newer models are better. I don't know. I'm really happy with my Mac and i had not planned to buy one. It runs very quiet and cool, it's lightening fast and has a 7 hour battery - whereas my old Sony had less than one hour and sounded like a freight train. Sony's been reliable, but i'm glad i didn't get another one. It doesn't even compare to my new computer.

Re: Advise on getting a new lappy
well I did get a vaio still getting used to it though. I had a Toshiba before and it was good but the scorching of the legs wow the Sony so far runs MUCH cooler. Toshiba would shut down it got so hot.
the new Vaio has an automatic fan so when your graphics are intensive it speeds up (it has an official name but
)
maybe next time I need a laptop I will look into mac.
I do like my iphone LOL so I am not a complete heathen

Re: Advise on getting a new lappy
I started with an iphone too. When i got this macbook, i had absolutely no intention of getting it. I had already decided against it because of the price, and went shopping at several different places like HHGregg, OfficeMax, and then finally Best Buy. I didn't even know Best Buy sold Apple products but after looking at all there other stuff, i realized i would be wasting my money on other brands, and for just a little bit more i could get a much better product. I haven't regretted it once! But then i didn't have any games that only work with windows like you do. I've been able to upload all my music on itunes and then onto my iphone very quickly and easily. I never intended to become an Apple groupie, or whatever they're called, but i'm totally sold on their products now. You won't regret getting a mac.

Re: Advise on getting a new lappy
Windows O/S software can be run on any Mac computer with recent O/S such as XO/S 10.0.
Mac O/S have a utility called Boot Camp (tm), which partitions the Mac hard drive to accept any Windose O/S. I have Windows XP on my MacBook Pro O/S 10.6.7. I have Fallout 3, STALKER I & 2, Diablo, etc., installed and they work perfect.
Note the Mac switched over to the Intel processor a couple years ago just like the ones the PC's have. They no longer use the Motorola chip. Even on my dual core MacBook Pro I can run Fallout 3 at medium graphics levels with no lag.
