Insurance regulations standing in way of sex abuse apology

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0...3_lnk1%7C63274

And before you ask, yes I do feel dirty going on the huffington post religion section.

So, in the wake of (more) decidedly dodgy Vatican regulations for bishops we see yet another incident-that-makes-me-ashamed-to-be-a-Christian, this time with the Presbyterians who, like the Baptists and Orthodox have there own dedicated SNAP network (excuse me while I go throw up). But, at least this time we have a church admitting it's dereliction of duty.* And looky here, an insurance company was trying to block it for "self-incrimination" reasons, how precious...

Makes me wonder if this ever happens to other churches.... It's a facet to the whole sickening dance I must admit I never thought of before.

Excuse me, I think I'll go become an alcoholic now...

*Personally, if I were a clerical abuse victim, an apology wouldn't mean a lot to me. I'd rather see the offender publicly castrated and then his superiors publicly repenting to God, but apparently these things are important to some victims.

I don't really get the whole apology thing either. Unless it's part of a genuine repentance, it's meaningless.

As for the other stuff, good on the Church in question for taking responsibility and ignoring the "advice" from the insurance company.

Yeah when it gets down to it? Some seem to dwell on the money... Those who have to pay anyway...

I sometimes wonder how Children get left alone with people that such things happen... That's my real issue with all this stuff.. Christian parents seem to with more frequency Ignore their constant gaurd of their Children.. They trust in things or neglect the reality that evil can arise anywhere... With all the failed parenting these days I don't blame the Church entirely.. The covenant of God has always had those that are corrupt and evil in it... How do children get left with or put in situations??/ I know this may sound crazy but I sometimes think we as parents can be as much at fault... How many parents dump their kids off at church functions like a baby sitter service??? That is apart from Rape and other non consenting crimes... Have parents contributed to the opertunity as well as leaderships inability to determine a likely offender?

      Definitely, I agree.

Though in religious schools, etc. it can't be helped. Of course, the amount of sex abuse in secular schools dwarfs that in any religious environment.

I'm unclear how it works, but how does the Catholic Church handle Confession for children? Is it still behind the screen?

Re: Insurance regulations standing in way of sex abuse apolo

its at the request of the person or the parent... It can be done either way and a childs confession is rather breif because there isn't much to discuss both the preist and the child have their limits...

So many things get carried into the church from the secular community.. All these things lead to bigger issues and why the churches take the Path they take to deal with the issues they face... It's partly why I say everyone looses most the time... But as parents how many contributed to what happened for various reasons.. My point being the corruption has always been there..But was the opertunity to follow through.. The Church had to change things to address such things and is proactive to prevent.. But like a computer virus.. It happens before you can write a fix.. you can't alway imagine what hasn't happened or how other will seek to make opertunity.. They are watching when you aren't...
