Why was he in court and why did he not want to be cleared?
This is a follow up to the puzzle in this thread I won’t say where it’s taken from until it has been solved, but I didn’t make it up myself:
A man is in court and at the end of the trial is cleared of any wrongdoing. He appeals against the decision to clear him, and is unsuccessful in his appeal. He then quits his job and continues to appeal the decision, taking it to higher and higher courts, each appeal unsuccessful, and ends up a broken man.
What was the case against him and why was he appealing against being cleared?
As before, I can answer yes, no or close.

Question: was it a civil suit?

Re: Why was he in court and why did he not want to be cleare
Does him being cleared of wrongdoing imply wrongdoing on the part of someone else?

Re: Why was he in court and why did he not want to be cleare
Right, as it was a civil suit, I presume he was being sued for something.

Is he going to be safe from something he's afraid of or doesn't like if he goes to jail or prison?

Does the man think he did something wrong?
