The entire charge that the Quran condones wife beating seems to be a bit exagerrated to me. Sure it says to beat them lightly if they start to weigh the family down by their rebellious and wanton behaviour, but that's something that anyone would do from any religion. LIke I said, if my wife laid out all night drinking and left me with the kids, i'm going to give her a light beating when she stumbles her drunk butt through the door.. You simply don't pull stunts like that.

Then divorce her if her behavior is unacceptable.

But as to being a bit exaggerated...
