"Yes, I'm quite concerned about health care issues surrounding leaked radiation from Japan. Now, please pass me my super sized, bacon double cheeseburger, combo meal..."
When I was young I admired clever people. Now that I'm older I admire kind people.~Rabbi Abraham Heschel
My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don't really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz

Re: Pat Robertson: Muslims are the New Nazis
That's pretty harsh isn't it? A Christian who violates Romans 2:1 has more problems than he knows. So you think a dude who has a sexual indiscretion and then naturally lies to cover it up is a sociopath? Are you judging this from a political position or a religious one?

Re: Pat Robertson: Muslims are the New Nazis
I think someone who would cheat on a partner has sociopathic tendencies at the very least. Whether he lies about doesn't really factor into that. But if you'd do that to the person closest to you, why wouldn't you do it to the faceless masses that you claim to represent?
Both. It is wrong on a religious level, but that's largely between him and God and possibly his synagogue (I believe he's Jewish, but not particularly religious). On a political level though, I don't want leaders who can't keep themselves from hurting their loved ones because there's very little such a person wouldn't do to hurt people he doesn't even know should the temptation arise. Are you judging this from a political position or a religious one?"Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it. The guy who was quoted opined that it was difficult to determine. He noted that in many cases, the payoff might not take the form of votes on legislative action -- those might be detectable, and so are avoided -- but could take subtler forms, like the question that is never asked at a hearing.
The media's doing a terrific job of not asking questions it doesn't want to know the answer to. It doesn't ask these questions in bulk, and the great volume of questions it doesn't ask makes it cheap to not ask questions.
And it passes these savings on to you, the customer." Ace

Re: Pat Robertson: Muslims are the New Nazis
But once the indiscretion breaks in the news, we already know about it because it becomes sensationalized and the top story over everything else, so posting a thread here is unnecessary, thus is pretty much just gossiping which gets into the realm of judgementalism, sort of like what happened in John 8. You're also asking for perfection, something that our theology affirms is not possible. But from a political angle, since I'm sure most politicians have ideologies you disagree with, wouldn't sexual indiscretion pretty much narrow down the political field for you to choose from even more?

Re: Pat Robertson: Muslims are the New Nazis
I couldn't care less if you find it unnecessary. I am posting it here because I like to discuss current events, and this is a current event. In fact it is good that scandals like these receive as much publicity as possible. Public humiliation is still a considerably lighter sentence than he would have gotten under Moses. If you consider this gossip, that's your problem, not mine.
I am not asking for perfection. Adultery was punished by death in the OT. Somehow the jews managed to survive. The choices are not "perfection" and "cheating on your spouse". I expect a basic level of decency from everybody, but especially from people who fancy themselves leaders. You're also asking for perfection, something that our theology affirms is not possible.

Concerns like these are only relevant to a point. If the candidates were Stalin, Hitler and Mao I wouldn't set mass murder aside as an issue just because it narrows the field."Years ago, I mean decades ago, I read a quote about politicians performing quid pro quo favors for campaign cash, and whether or not we could prove it.
