Windows 8 - who the heck designed the UI?

Microsoft seriously needs to be rethinking the graphics of the "immersive" UI on Windows 8. That's the "tiles"

      They are way ugly.

      It's like a throwback to the 70's.

Who the heck designed it? Keith Partridge?

They even have the funky Avacado Green and Mustard Yellow that appliances used to come in back in the 70's!

Wait, that's what the OS will look like?

Whoever approved this design needs to be fired and barred from working professionally again.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

From what I understand, W8 will have a traditional windows interface, and a touchscreen interface. The tiles thing will be the touchscreen version. I think on a PC you would be able to choose which you want to use, but on tablets and phones it would automatically use the tiles. They call it their "immersive browser" - and I think they are kinda basing it on the windows media center interface, but the WMC interface at least looks nice. This thing looks horrible.

Sparko, you don't know the half of it.

They're talking up HTML5 and being very tight lipped on whether or not C# and the .NET platform will even be supported in Win8.

which is making us developers very nervous.

dropping .NET would break too many programs.

ah I just read up on it. they are talking about dropping .net and c#, etc for the tile apps development, not for running the regular windows programs.

if they don't fix the touch UI, I don't think anyone has to worry about that because there won't be anyone using it to develop apps for.

Re: Windows 8 - who the heck designed the UI?

What Microsoft is wanting to do (and I think they are doing it the wrong way) is to have one OS that will run on a desktop/laptop and a tablet.

Naturally they're copying the UI from Win Phone 7 (which again I think is )

Yeah the windows phone OS is truly an ugly fest.

They need to hire some artists to design the UI instead of programmers. Or left over hippies from the 70's. The boxes are so baaaaad. I half expect the partridge family bus to appear on the screen, or the Brady Bunch family to start appearing in the boxes and smiling at each other.

Melinda Gates, most likely. The same one that designed Microsoft Bob.

will you just stop with your women-hating comments? sheesh. I am sorry that you live in your mom's basement and can't get a date, but damn, do you have to let it influence your entire life?
