Re: I think I have Borderline Personality Disorder
People with BPD often injure themselves for emotional relief. I've been doing that for years.

Re: I think I have Borderline Personality Disorder
Do you want to stop? Essentially, if any of the behaviours that you are exhibiting are causing you distress and you'd like to change them, get down to your GP and talk about it; you may get a referral and some sort of diagnosis, and be offered a course of therapy. If you're okay with your behaviours and don't believe they interfere with your day to day life, but want a label for them, I would shy well clear of any personality disorder label. Seriously, you should check out the powers that our government has when it comes to sectioning and interference re: personality disorders.
I should also note that internet tests have me as a potentially bipolar, sociopathic, simultaneously schizoid and histrionic narcissist. Which is just ridiculous. I torture the rabbits to keep the tigers away, not because I'm some sort of monster.

Re: I think I have Borderline Personality Disorder
I am seeing a doctor about it, amongst other things. I e-mail my mental health advisor and he suggested I see my GP, so that is what I am going to do.

Re: I think I have Borderline Personality Disorder
I post this not to belittle, but merely to give you a laugh RG.
"One develops a cool and ironic sense of bitter humor, as well as a bloated ego, and this personality characteristic is the defining trait of atheists ancient and modern. If there is a meek and humble atheist or sorcerer brimming with the milk of human kindness, I have yet to meet him." -John C Wright
"Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded- here and there, now and then- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as “bad luck.”"
— Robert A. Heinlein
"America's political system used to be about the pursuit of happiness. Now More and more of us want to stop chasing it and have it delivered."
"The government cannot love you, and any politics that works on a different assumption is destined for no good."
"Government money only pays for the "liberties" the government thinks you should have, and therefore it can determine how you exercise them. That turns liberties into privileges dispensed at the whim of the state."

Re: I think I have Borderline Personality Disorder
If you go to the doctor they will make you take a true/false test with about 45 minutes worth of statements. Obviously online tests aren't meant to be exhaustive but a doctor will be able to tell you if you have a full blown personality disorder or some other form of illness.

Re: I think I have Borderline Personality Disorder
You said that you had all the traits - the clinical and only description of the personality disorder fit you like a glove. That would be a claim to truly exhibit all nine of the DSM-IV symptoms, and I still say that you cannot possibly be there. All the traits is the most extreme case !
How much pain are you in ? How taxed is your immediate family ? (Do you live at home ?) How ruined is your life so far with two or three years of having all the traits of BPD ? You cannot be a high-functioning person with the nine traits of BPD in place. So, THAT IS WHY I told you to rethink this. I have personal experience with the disorder at a lowered level, you see, and I know you cannot be this "invisible" higher-functioning borderline person if you actually do have every trait [just] listed in the DSM-IV as a stand-alone definition of your psychological state.
Read CodewordConduit's description again of the life of her friend. You must have at least five of the nine to be diagnosed as actually having the disorder. Really think hard about what those traits do to a person's life. Ponder it. Her description sounds quite accurate. That is what it looks like in real life and not a web test result.
I don't know much about it, you think ? I know it's a hell everyday for the terribly dysfunctional and self-destructive person with it and that the awful pain of it extends naturally to what will become an ever dwindling number of friends and relatives who remain in some capacity as the years go by.
So look forward to that and wring your hands anxiously anticipating it in the meantime. I figured you expected to get all kinds of feedback on this issue you brought. Some of it could be crazy!
Get a dialectical behavor therapist now if you are so sure of it. I can't say that you don't have all nine traits. You say you sure do. Alright then. Even two to three years of borderline personality disorder puts you behind. Look for such a therapist now. It will take time. The persons trained to do it are probably still too rare here in the U.S. You aren't in America but the best therapy for it was developed here. I hope it has made it's way well into England and is in practice widely enough that you can 'try out' at least two practitioners. A main reason for the rarity that existed is that doing this for the verifiable 5 or more trait BPD victom is hard on the therapist, personally, requiring of them a single specific course of training..and talent, and extraordinary dedication and great patience and love.

In my opinion, the single most telling piece of evidence that shows how poorly we're manifesting our call to care for animals is the recent creation of factory farms. Over the last century we have, to a large degree, reduced farm animals to commercialized commodities whose only value is found in how efficiently we can produce and slaughter them for profit. Consequently, more than 26 billion animals each year are forced to live in miserable, overcrowded warehouses, where there is absolutely nothing natural about their existence and where they are subjected to barbaric, painful, industrial procedures.
This is a far cry from what God meant when he told us to exercise "dominion." (Pastor Greg Boyd.)
