No answer to the other question I see and a shame to hear that is what is thought of as growing up. (Also, with concern to Toodles, if you think she'd just be into a pony craze, as much as she loves horses, she's not. She showed me the MLP she used to watch and we both couldn't stand it. Her favorite movie is also Bloodsport, the original one.)

I'd still like to hear what is so terrible about it. I was skeptical too, but I gave it a chance and I'm glad I did.

no. I watched it before with my 4-year-old niece (that is how I know about Pinky Pie, her favorite) - I even bought her the dolls to play with. Do you have the dolls too? er, I mean, "Collectable Action Figures"?

Yes. She is 6 now and told me that she is too old for ponies now. She has moved on to other pursuits.

If you watched episodes with your niece when she was 4 and she's now 6, it wasn't the current series, Friendship is Magic, the series that is now attracting so much attention. There has only been one season so far, and it just began airing last Fall, in October.

I like MLP:FiM. I think the writing is sharp; there are witty asides and sight-gags, the surprisingly well-rounded characters have personality, and the entire season has an arc that is interesting and cohesive.

I believe the widespread appeal and the extensive popularity of this meme remove it from 'gay' territory, but that's just my opinion. If I like it and you don't, c'est la vie; I still don't get the appeal of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
