Re: Reality Check & whether Paul existed and other fun stuff
Why are there xtians that believe in futurism but you don't? Why do some (Catholics and big-O Orthodox) believe the bread and wine actually becomes body and blood, but you don't? Stupid question.

Re: Reality Check & whether Paul existed and other fun stuff
What for? Because you made a stupid comment? Printing presses print hymns LONG AFTER they're composed, moron...and if you want to appeal to prior hymns from mainstream Christianity (go see how many LDS hymns actually LOOK like Christian hymns!), then oops...the Jews had them even before Christianity.

Try again, Really Upchuck.

Is there some factory that turns out these New Atheist clones (clowns)? They all seem to be exactly alike.

Re: Reality Check & whether Paul existed and other fun stuff
Hymns and doctrines and prayers, without the printing press or mass media, would take a long time to become widespread. How could this happen so soon after the supposed Jesus of Nazereth died?

Don't you read the books of their own leaders?
See, civilization has alleviated the pressures of natural selection from them. So without that, the stupid and idiotic are allowed to survive to the point they annoy everyone.
Which sometimes results in natural selection working after all..."One develops a cool and ironic sense of bitter humor, as well as a bloated ego, and this personality characteristic is the defining trait of atheists ancient and modern. "Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded- here and there, now and then- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as “bad luck.”"

derp. Gee ever hear of word of mouth? They congregated together, sang songs, some people went off to other places, took the songs with them.
not to mention sending letters (derp, just like Paul did!) from church to church.
I suppose you don't believe the Christian church existed either though, right?

Re: Reality Check & whether Paul existed and other fun stuff
No they wouldn't, moron. In a primarily oral society, and especially with works like hymns that used memorization-based structures, they would spread as fast as someone could travel from one place to another -- and within the Empire, using the advantage of sea travel, that could be no more than a matter of weeks. Later on Arius used rhyming ditties to spread his ideas around the same way.
You? You're just a chronologically snobbish fundy atheist who thinks everyone who lived before 1863 was a slobbering nincompoop.

Re: Reality Check & whether Paul existed and other fun stuff
I don't believe a Christian Church existed then, no. There were many "Christian Churches" right up until the time of Constantine. Then one faction won out and punished others with the sword.suppose you don't believe the Christian church existed either though, right?
The ancient Roman world was quite eclectic in their religion, there were what later became "orthodox" xtians, gnostic xtian, Marcionite xtians, Arian xtians, etc. etc. This myth about how there was one "holy, catholic, and apostolic church" in the 1st Century is revisionist history. Heck in the first century there wasn't even a clear dividing line between xtianity and Judaism!

Newsflash, Holding: Palestine was heavily Hellenized by the 1st Century, in fact there were towns within a few miles of Nazereth that were BUILT by the Romans full of pagan temples and shrines. Religious borrowing was an accepted practice in the ancient world.
