      Re: For Reality Check

We used to pass a bong around when we asked questions like that. Of course that tended to cause the conversation to degenerate into questions like "Why couldn't the professor just plug the hole in the boat if he could make a radio out of coconuts?"

Don't get up. I can let myself out

Right . . . and then we all groan "Oh wow man . . . . look off into the distance, change the plastic to Jimmy Hendrix, or The Velvet Underground . . . and then reach for the bong again.

BTW, how can one exclude the "Matrix" dilemma. I mean, sure there's no evidence for it . . . but there is no evidence against it either.

      Re: For Reality Check

this is actually pretty interesting stuff to me (the existence argument) but I don't have a background in philosophy so I am not sure I understand the problem very well with the leaf. After RC answers, I would like a shot at solving the problem. I may just be showing my ignorance though.

You guys are sounding like Martin Heidegger now. I bought his book awhile back 'cause it kept getting referenced in my readings . . . Being and Time, I think it was. I could understand the first paragraph but after that . . . nada.

Anyone else ever try and read Heidegger. 'Bout as much fun as reading The Sound and the Fury, by William Faulkner. Now that's a book!

question: under Parmenides view, can being cause other other being to be? As in a drum causing the air to vibrate making a sound? the air already has being, it just moved because of the drum.

oh i loved Bob Ross, he always painted a lovely landscape only to ruin it by adding a huge tree in front, always a huge tree in the front in the end. Just when you thought he would leave it alone this time.

Did you like Bob Ross RC? we can talk art instead if that's more your forte...
