Okay, that's not the invention that needs to be invented. What needs to be invented is a way to apply this in large sheets across a room so that you can have electronic wallpaper. Sick of the color of your walls, click a button in a menu on your laptop or iPad and you have a new color. Want to give the illusion you live in a castle or an ancient pavilion or a log cabin... press a button on your computer.

Okay, that's not the invention that needs to be invented. What needs to be invented is a way to apply this in large sheets across a room so that you can electronic wallpaper. Sick of the color of your walls, click a button in a menu on your laptop or iPad and you have a new color. Want to give the illusion you live in a castle or an ancient pavilion or a log cabin... press a button on your computer.

a better invention would be augmented reality contact lenses/glases. So that you can superimpose graphics into your field of vision. This would allow for floating computer displays that only you can see, superimposing graphics as a heads up display (think of a GPS that shows up as actual floating arrows showing you where to go), virtual reality games, and allow you to change the color of your walls or change anything around you. You could basically live in a cardboard box and have it look like Donald Trump's mansion. It would eliminate the need for tablets, smart phones and all that by allowing virtual keyboards and inputs to be sensed by the contacts and interacted by gestures and voice commands.

I think we will see such things in the next 10-15 years or so.

If someone from 20 years ago could see today, he would think the streets were filled with schizophrenics, walking around talking to themselves (on bluetooth headsets)

If we could see 15 years from now, we would think the people on the streets were spazmo zombies as they twitched their way down the road talking to themselves, and waving their arms around and talking to people who are not there. :-)

I'd go for a monitor of one of this thin stuff. Then when I go into one of my Famous Xru Battle Rages when Windoze Blows up gives me the Blue Screen of Death I can't break it by throwing into the MB of my box.

A side effect would be my not having to explain to my wonderful wife, Rose Anne, why I totally destroyed my new Windoze Blows up Gaming Box that cost $3000 to build.

Yeah, that'd be pretty cool, but who wants to wear glasses all day if you don't need to, and a lot of people are adverse to wearing contacts. I know augmented reality is coming on things like cellphones and games and whatnot, but I'm not sure how practical it'll be outside of that. Who knows though.
