from what I could tell about BR is that they were genetically based artificial life forms. Basically clones but designed to be genetically superior. So since they are based on human DNA and are not machines, I would say they would have souls. I don't think "souls" are something that God just pops into a body once it is "cooked" - I think souls or spirits are part of the human being itself. Like their mind is, or emotions. They are not physical themselves but are rooted in a physical structure. I think the spirit is the same.

If you create a human being, you create a soul too.

I wonder if God would be upset by this.

Like a straight up clone? Yeah... maybe. If I'm honest, I'm not comfortable with the idea of cloned humans, but I'd go with Sparko's explanation. A clone, in my mind, isn't too far off from a biological twin in many ways. The replicants in BR didn't seem to me to be your run of the mill clone though. Their memories were fabricated, their intelligence and strength were based on model type, and their emotional state wasn't fully... I don't know... formed? Also, it seems sort of ambiguous whether or not replicants were entirely biological or some sort of cyborg cross or something. They weren't really born, it was hinted that they had parts that came from different labs and kind of Frankensteined together.

I think he knows. That was what the replicant said. He kept interrupting the interviewer with dumb questions like "what desert?" "why am I there?" "what's a tortoise?"

      I know. that's Leon's line "What desert?"

"It doesn't make any difference what desert, it's completely hypothetical."

"But, how come I'd be there?"

I love that whole scene. Just hilarious to me. Well.. you know.. till the dude gets whacked.

I haven't seen the movie in awhile but I sort of got the impression that the parts were grown in labs and then assembled.

      Frankenstein's monster had a soul.

but that does bring up a good question. Where is the soul? Let's say they get to the point where they can transplant any body part easily. After a while there won't be much left of the original person. Does he still have a soul? Is the Soul in the brain? What if they could replace brain cells one at a time? and they would keep the same synaptic connections to the other cells, so that your memories remained in tact and all that. At which point would it not be you any more? Or your soul?

There was the "eye" guy. Then Sebastion, not sure what he made. Did it really get into what the assembly process was actually about?

Again . . . but what is God going to think about all this when a human is finally cloned if one has not already done so along with a soul. Think he'll be as ticked off as I expect him to be?
