Natural Science 301 Guidelines

This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. This means obvious trolling and flaming that becomes a problem will be dealt with, and you might find yourself in the doghouse.

As usual, Tweb rules apply. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

Actually this the definition of Monotheism. Theism includes polytheism which believes in more than one God.

True! So make my definition plural.

Neither of those definitions mention potency, or even potentiality.
A material soul is only a material substnatial form, which does not have quantity.
        Substantial forms are not material.
You often make rudimentary errors in philosophy.
Perhaps - but not as rudimentary as the above one.

Any substantial form of any non living body is not spiritual, but then contrary to spiritual, which may be termed material.

Theism is broadly defined as the belief in the existence of either a deity or deities.[1][2] In popular parlance, or when contrasted with deism, the term often describes the classical conception of god(s) that is found in the monotheistic and polytheistic religions; a belief in a god or in gods without the rejection of revelation as is characteristic of deism.

The burn! I have to say his arguments on the development on the organs is almost as bad as his harping on 'less from more'. Even though just about any thomist philosopher would agree that the earliest organisms could simple have the power to give rise to all the subspecies we know on Earth.

Too bad he couldn't resist going on another thread posting spree. He's off into the matrix again.

                  • I suspect this might have been deliberate on JohnMartin's part. He was asking to be banned earlier, apparently as a way of breaking his habit. He was advised to simply change his password to something he would not remember. I think he's decided on this tactic instead... it might let him think of himself as a victim, or of theologyweb as unable to manage his incisive argument. I had nothing useful to say to him after a thread in the old theologyweb where I defended the proposition that he was abysmally bad at philosophy. The board is better without him... and I suspect John is better off weaned away from his pointless pursuits here as well.

"When the Western world accepted Christianity, Caesar conquered; and the received text of Western theology was edited by his lawyers…. The brief Galilean vision of humility flickered throughout the ages, uncertainly…. But the deeper idolatry, of the fashioning of God in the image of the Egyptian, Persian, and Roman imperial rulers, was retained. The Church gave unto God the attributes which belonged exclusively to Caesar."
