Re: A Review of The Magic of Reality
I certainly agree that belief in the existence of God is a matter of faith. And there are certainly versions of religious faith that sit reasonably easily with strict rationality. I do not think that science has an unlimited reach but I do expect in time we will have at least partial answers to the big questions. My own view is that what science cannot tell us is not really known at all although I do accept that “explanations” of all sorts are available that are completely satisfying to many people. I think it is helpful to not mind not knowing. I also think that Ockham’s razor, the so called law of parsimony, actually works. My last thought on the matter is that the world’s religions have their roots in mankind’s first attempts to explain the world, his place in it and generally to regulate his affairs with special laws and customs. Our modern sciences, laws and governments have split off and evolved naturally from these religions.
Your kindness is much appreciated. I may look in from time to time.
