Re: Immediate Site Financial Need
What do you mean by a server bill exactly? Even though I'm a programmer, I don't know much about running a web site. I don't mind helping with operating expenses, I'd just like to know a little more detail.

Re: Immediate Site Financial Need
Look . . . Sparko, mossyrock, dizzle, Chris, C26, CP and many others pull their weight around here and I couldn't care less if they don't send in a dime. Supposedly we have ACTIVE 2,795 MEMBERS. Where the hell are they. If someone has a good reason great. Sparko has a bad car, some are out of work, etc. So where are the rest of ACTIVE 2,785 members. I proposed scholarships for those who can't contribute and I suppose it will be part MY money which some of you are so derisive about that will be funding that if it ever happens. Did anyone take that and run with it. Duh. NO!
And BTW I'm not throwing my $$$$ in any ones face for your information. I've been contributing for months and haven't said a thing. And ya I've spent almost $700 helping keep TWeb going the last few mounts. How any of you would have done that, eh.
What we need is more contributing members. And the question is how are we going to get them.
Well we are NOT going to get them by burying the contribution link in the "Help" section of TWeb which I have brought up at least dozen times. Has anyone done anything about. NO. I suggested a DONATE button on the main forum pages. Has anyone done anything about the. NOOOOO. NO. And NO. Look at any successful site like Wiki and there is it . . . . DONATE.
I've suggested a biyearly donation drive. Anyone follow up on that. Oh gee no! Oops guess it got forgot. Ya know members are not the only ones that can donate, eh.
You all want to get pissed at me because I point out the obvious . . . . lack of sustained effort to put TWeb on a firm financial footing. Though . . . and I mean it Sparko, mossyrock, and c26, and anyone else who gives me crap about it. Ya, I have no doubt I am not the only one who contributes a regular donation and then more. Did I suggest that . . . I don't think so. The problem is no one know who contributes what as far as I know. Has ANYONE done ANY kind of thorough market analysis? Anyone?
It's all a confused mess of Crisis to Crisis and maybe we should sell some TWEB TeeShirts. Ya that'll work.
Right now me and Chris are setting up a deal with amazon.com to place books of interest in certain areas of our forum. I anticipate this is going to be rather big. I hope.
In the four months I've been gone how much conversation has been going on to solve this continuing annoying and potentially catastrophic cash flow problem in the coffee house or shop or whatever. Well I'll tell you . . . almost nothing.
You all want to go from CRISIS TO FINANCIAL Crisis AND GIVE DIZZLE ULCERS. YOU ALL KNOW HOW MUCH SHE'S SPENT KEEPING TWEB GOING? Wieners!Last edited by Xru; March 8th 2012 at 03:51 PM.

Re: Immediate Site Financial Need
If you click on Help at the top of the tweb screen and click on the donations link it will take you to the page where you can make a one time donation or subscribe to a monthly donation. It's been a while since I signed up, but pay pal is relatively anonymous...isn't it?

Re: Immediate Site Financial Need
Sarah, you can write me in private if you like. But for everyone that is interested.... the donations are through Paypal, and I am the only one who handles the account to the extent of knowing the identities of those who contribute. I don't as a rule share that with the general staff as we don't want that, either directly or indirectly, affecting moderating decisions.
Xru is very passionate, but he does not mean to offend anyone. There is a real need here where every few months I have to put out an emergency need. Ideally we would have monthly contributors that would cover the cost with a fundraising event for some extraordinary need. With the economy the way it is, it hasn't been that way for while.
I am going to be talking with Chrs about some of Xru's ideas about making the contribution button more accessible and I am going to be looking into some fundraising ideas.
Does anyone know if there is a third party company that handles raffles? If we did something like that, I wouldn't want it handled in house so there could be no allegations of "cheating" and so that staff could participate as well since staff also contributes.Nochyu mokraya ptitsa nikogda ne letaet.

My employment situation right now is a little sticky so I'm only able to chip in a few dollars, but I hope it can help.

Re: Immediate Site Financial Need
Bent Radar, the server bill is for the dedicated server that hosts the site. It actually takes quite a bit of server to run the site due to the activity level and the fact that we don't prune substantive posts. We host over at ServerBeach - http://www.serverbeach.com/
If you go to the site, you can see the type of things they offer and get an idea of what I mean. Our server bills is $202/month, which is our primary and major expense.Nochyu mokraya ptitsa nikogda ne letaet.

Can we raffle off your sword, dizzle? I bid my ten year old dell computer, my old sneaker (left), and I will agree NOT to express an opinion on TWeb for (errrrrrrr) one month!

KG . . . with almost 3,000 "active" members a couple bucks would be terrific. I wouldn't give you a kiss though! However, I would gently and lovingly stroke your fur.
