This thread has convinced me that Russian meddling in US affairs goes even deeper than we ever feared.

I agree simply because it's way too early for that. But it is strange, given the anti-Trump sentiment that followed the election. It might well indicate something is going on.

If you look like at a county-level electoral map, it's obvious the anti-Trump sentiment is limited to a handful of liberal pockets rather than being a popular nationwide movement. The liberal media is working overtime to make it seem bigger than it is.

And historically, at least for the most part, the side that wins the presidency tends to lose special elections held immediately afterwards (almost like reflecting some sort of buyer's remorse or the winners are complacent and not nearly as energized), so for the Republican's to sweep the field, even in red districts, is noteworthy.

A disappointment for democrats, but not a big deal. Dems were not expected to win any of those redder than red districts in a special election in the first place, if they did win it would have been an anomaly and a big deal, they didn't pullit off, but they came much closer in all of them than anyone expected they would from the get go. All it shows really is that the dems have made inroads, but not enough to overcome bright red districts. I wouldn't be jumping for joy over the results if I were republican, they won but they won by much smaller margins in what were extremely red districts.

I guess you missed the long faces on CNN when it become obvious Handel would win. They really thought this was the one to shift the momentum, that they would finally have the "referendum" against Trump they've been longing for. Democrats spent an unprecedented amount of money on this race because they really thought they could win.

Don't kid yourself, Jimmy, this was another gut-punch for the Democrats.

Of course it would have been a big win, and he almost pulled it off, the dems almost pulled of the win in S.Carolina as well and they spent nothing on that one. But of course, the fact that it turned out to be a horse race and not being able to pull it out in the end is disappointing. The fact is that the last Republican crook to hold that seat won it by 20 percentage points, Handel just won by 4%. Do the math.

You know what we call someone who almost won?

Granted - but it was never about geography but raw numbers.

Atlanta? Seriously, you think Atlanta is 'redder than red'?

It should trouble Democrats - as hard as the media has been pushing the anti-Trump vitriol it is odd that they lost all five.
