      That's cause I'm an ANT!

AND... I just looked at the rest of that post for CONTEXT, so... yeah, I'm sure everybody saw me frothing at the mouth and turning purple.

(I REALLY DO thank you for not posting in purple anymore, Jeff - THAT was SO HARD to manage in quotes!)

I miss my purple phase. It made it easier to tell my remarks apart from those I was quoting. But I am trying to keep my promise, trying to fight the urge when it seems I should go back to purple mode. Following the 12-step program....

I'm proud of you, Jeff. So, how long have you been black*?

*So that nobody thinks I'm being racist (not that that would stop SOME) let me clearly state that I'm referring to the fact that Jeff is typing in BLACK type instead of PURPLE, and I'm likening that to the AA meeting where one would say "I have been sober for 121 days...." (or words to that effect)

Hi, my name is Jeff, and I am a purpleholic. It's been 65 days* since my last confession....oh wait, wrong phrase. I have been purple-free for 65 days.

In fairness, Nibley seems to have made the most effort among Mormon apologists to use early Christian documents in support of his work. It would be interesting to look at how orthodox authors cite his material.

I've read some of Nibley's work I find him confusing. I know Mormon's have this adoration for him as kind of a Father of apologetics but... I find him to be more of a Mad Scientist.

I can give some examples so i am not just name calling but... this man does have issues.

I have read Mormonism and Early Christianity and Tinkling Cymbals and Sounding Brass cover to cover, and I found all 1000-plus pages fascinating and, many times, entertaining. I did have to re-read some parts several times to grasp the point being made, but that is not Nibley's fault--it was mine, since I lack the education and training that he had.

Also admired by us are Talmage and Roberts.

He was the first to admit that he was not perfect. And his son-in-law, when writing the biography of Nibley, made sure to point out that he was not perfect. But I bet that if you wrote as much as Nibley did, there would be people who said that you had issues.

I'm really looking forward to saving up enough money to buy all the volumes of Nibley's collected works.

I got most of them either back when they were cheap, or used on Amazon. If you buy one volume here, another there, from the sellers charging the lowest prices, you can end up with the entire collection for not too much money.

Interestingly enough, I came across a cite of Nibley's work today in a book I'm reading (Defending Constantine by Peter J. Leithart), supporting the notion that one reason why Constantine built so many grand churches is due to Christian envy of temples.
