Decades ago I was given the nickname "apostoli" by an older Greek lady at a takeaway, because I was her favourite "Paul" and the tag stuck. Too many people named "Paul" in this world! No other significance in the tag...

In my understanding, the Ashkenazi Jews have definite blood ties to other Jews.

Imu, strictly speaking the Ashkenazi are German Jews, though there was emigration east in medieval times. My direct association has been mainly with Hungarian and Russian Jews (the guys I grew up with and have associated with for decades) who seem to have a low opinion of what they refer to as the Ashkenazi. Imu, from personal Jewish sources, and personal experience, there is a severe case of ethnic racism within Australian Jewish circles...

ps: I forget which kingdom/s, but in the early centuries CE there were a couple of kingdoms that converted to Judaism as an effective means of neutrality. Given time I can give exact references. Also, I vaguely remember that there is rumour that the Parthian empire originated as a rebellious group of Jewish warriors during or after the Babylonian exile (something yet to be substantianted). If true, there is the liklihood of enforced conversion to Judaism amoungst various eastern european ethnicities...

pss: I'm told that in Jewish thought, Jewishness comes through the mother, which justifies the extreme prejudice I've experienced in associating with female Jews (from male jews), whilst it is totally acceptable (within my circles) for a Jewish male to union with a gentile female...

Why are you getting into Jewish identification? It is irrelevant to this thread.
Micah 6:6. With what shall I come before the Lord, bow before the Most High G-d? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with yearling calves? 7. Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with myriad streams of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8. He has told you, O man, what is good, and what the Lord demands of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d.

Next time someone goes off topic, you should throw a dradel at their face.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'

'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

I have no idea to whom you are adressing your question but if it is to me, my comments are in direct answer to this thread...Jewish identification (the Maccabees) is core to the Jewish festive season (Hanukkah)...
