      Recommend a local beer

Yes, I am, in fact, one of those Christians who likes to drink in moderation. I enjoy trying microbrews/craft beers.

I'll start. I don't know if it's available outside of the Midwest, but Free State Wheat State Golden is a very tasty wheat beer. It's very light and not particularly hoppy (another hoppier brew from the same brewery that I also recommend is Ad Astra Ale).

I'll have to look that up. I need to try more local beer - Flying Dog Brewery is pretty close, but the only product of theirs I've tried so far would get me moderated if I post it.

      Re: Recommend a local beer

While I don't do much drinking (the contract I signed for where I live forbids alcohol on premises... though I can drink elsewhere with no repercussions), a beer that the Offsale store at The Tap sells in Regina called "Redcoat Ale" isn't half bad, considering it's price (a 2L for about $10). Can't say I enjoy the taste it leaves in my mouth, though... but other than that it's pretty good.

Though if we're talking about local as in 'Brewed in our country', then I have to say that- when it comes to Canadian Beers- Alexander Keith's is one of the best (either their Red Amber or Harvest ales... I haven't tried their IPAs or their Dark Ales yet). 'tis worth a try, if you can get a pint or a bottle of it in the US of A (which IIRC is possible). Though, if the restaurant/tavern I'm at doesn't serve it (and if I'm not in the mood for Guinness), then I'll usually order a Big Rock Traditional if they have it (brewed in Alberta, IIRC).

I have heard from a friend of mine who has lived in both countries that beer is considerably more expensive in Canada.

Eh for the good stuff maybe (I can't really comment on the cost of beer in the US of A, nor can I comment on the prices of the cheap stuff since I don't usually buy it to begin with). If you order a pint in a restaurant/pub, it's typically about $5-$6 for local beer (ie, Alexander Keith's or Big Rock Traditional Ale), and $6-$8 for Imports (ie, Guinness). It's about 12-15 bucks for a six-pack at a liquor store (again, Keith's or Guinness).

At the liquor store, $6 will get you a six-pack of cheap beer (bottles). $9 will get you a six-pack of good beer. I don't buy beer in cans, so I couldn't comment on pricing for that.

Yuengling is unusual in that it's both decent and cheap, so that's what I usually drink.

If I want something extremely cheap with no regard for quality, at least around here, you can find a 6 pack of Old Milwaukee or something for about $3.50. Many stores allow one to build their own six packs, generally of assorted microbrews from around the US (and occasionally the world) for $1.50-$2.50 per 12 liter beer - I sometimes do that when I'm feeling adventurous.

Incidentally, I've never quite been a fan of Guinness, other than their advertising.

Local beer: Boulevard - their "6th Glass" is my favorite, it's one of their "specialty" beers.

Favorite beer (but too expensive to drink often): Rochefort 8 (Belgian trappist)

Ouch... that IS substantially cheaper than what we pay.

Yeah, it's definitely a "Your Mileage may Vary" Beer. My brother, my nephew and I all love the stuff, plus it's my one friend's go-to beverage. Other than that, no one else I know will touch it.

I was going to suggest it myself. Unfortunately they don't ship outside the North East.

Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don't believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and some other guys who can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it's about who is smarter, and honestly, I don't care. ~ Don Miller Blue Like Jazz

That's no guarantee. Stella Artois, despite its popularity, is not decent beer.
