You might have been there, but articles written at the time suggest that your memories are based more on fantasy and revisionist history than on reality.

      ----------

(Jan 2010) Despite their claims to the contrary, the way that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have handled the healthcare bill has been anything but transparent. And, if the left-wing blogosphere is to be believed, the two congressional leaders intend to keep the deliberations secret as they try to merge the House and Senate versions of the legislation into something that will pass both chambers.

      ...

"This process cuts out the Republicans," a House Democratic aide told TPM, indicating the congressional majority intended to make sure the Republican minority would "not have a motion to recommit opportunity."

      ----------

There's a bunch more examples at the above link, Jimmy.

(Sept 2009) The Senate plans to attach Obamacare to a House-passed non-healthcare bill. Ironically, nobody knows what that legislation looks like, because it has not yet been written. Yet many members plan to rubber-stamp Obamacare without reading or understanding the bill.

The Senate Finance Committee worked furiously last week to mark up a "conceptual framework" of health care reform. The committee actually rejected an amendment by Sen. Jim Bunning (R.-Ky.) to mandate that the bill text and a final cost analysis by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) be publicly available at least 72 hours before the Finance Committee votes on final passage.

It seems you're confused. The Finance Committee voting on a bill is not the same thing as the Senate doing so. Sub-Committees are small groups of Senators that exist to focus on particular issues and help draft legislation related to those areas. Generally a bill needs to go through a committee before going to the Senate floor for open debate and discussion.

The Obamacare legislation had 3 months of open debate and discussion. I'm sorry you're so low-information that you don't realize that and don't understand how different what the Republicans are doing is.

It's just that the Democrats are FAR more gifted at faking transparency...

I read the article. The summary is, the Democrats went slow and had committee hearings, public input, CBO scoring, the works. Months later, after the bill had been debated, discussed, etc, all the Republicans eventually made absolutely clear they were not interested in voting for it. So Reid decided it was time to finally pass the thing, and approached the hold-outs within the Democrats and said "what changes would it take to make you vote for it?", then they did those final changes and passed the bill rapidly.

To be fair, those final changes weren't tiny - they involved removing the Public Option and the Medicare buy-in for over-55s. But the overall bill itself, with its notion of setting up the Obamacare exchanges, the subsidies, the medicaid expansion etc, had been out in the open for months, and not at all done in secret. The Republicans are breaking entirely new ground with their levels of secrecy, and with trying to pass bills before the CBO has had time to score them.

I think everyone is tired of this kind of response from Trump supporters. It's nothing other than a distraction, and refusal to address an actual issue.
Quiet, moron. It's for those libtards freaking out over 'Reps doing X' when they cheered on Dems doing the same thing.

I sometimes wonder if it's a tacit admission that Trump is doing something terribly wrong, therefore triggering that amygdala in the trumpet brain, and then this somewhat defensive, fight or flight, reaction.
I sometimes wonder if libs going 'stop doing what I call ''''''tu-quoque''''''''!!!!!' is tacit admission that side of libs is very hypocritical, therefore therefore triggering that amygdala in libtard brain, and then this somewhat defensive, fight or flight, reaction. 'Stop talking about how hypocritical my libtard side is !!!!

Deal with the issues, or let the grown ups talk.

Stop trying to act adult, go back to to kid's table, child who doesn't want to face fact that this sort of government game has gone on for about forever!!!

Despite the bill being open for everyone to read for months, Faux News had been demonizing it so heavily and pretty much blatantly lying about it (that it would destroy America, be worse than slavery etc) that people had come to have a distorted view of it and what it would do. Pelosi's point was that once the bill was actually passed and implemented, people would realized they actually quite liked it, which has turned out to be the case - a majority of people in the US now approve of Obamacare in polls. Pelosi wasn't talking about hiding the bill, or passing something nobody had read, and you make yourself look like an idiot by pretending she was. Given you've been told about this multiple times, I have to assume dishonest motives on your part in posting this. I'm not a fan of Pelosi, but there are actual real things to criticize her for, rather than false things like this.

Give it up, dumbass, because you don't know what you're talking about. The bill was in such a constant state of flux that whatever existed publicly bore little resemblance to the bill which was eventually passed which was assembled in secret behind closed doors and less than a week later was pushed through the Senate at the 11th-hour before anyone really had a chance to read it or even comprehend what they were voting on. This is all confirmed in the links I posted earlier.

I'm not happy that Republicans appear to be doing similar, but it's a bit rich of liberals to cry foul while continuing to defend the Democrats.
