Re: Is anybody else disturbed by this..
That's part of the reason I find this disturbing, because it reduces a person into a commodity.
I know it's just the carbon from the person, and the rest is broken up and most likely flying in the air or down the drain or absorbed by the clouds or animals or people and all that.
It's like if I say, that I want to be made into paint, and the paint is just made with the water in my body mixed with other chemicals. It's really pointless. But if somebody wants that done, that's their perogative.
I still think it's disturbing. Just the thought of a kid wanting to draw something and asking for a drawing utensil, and the mom giving the kid a pencil made with Aunt Ruth's or uncle so and sos ashes, with their name and everything on it.

I guess it depends on what you do with the pencils. No one wants to be stuck to an office ceiling for eternity

Re: Is anybody else disturbed by this..
Hmmm... because it's eating a recognizable human body? Not eating human bodies is a learned behavior, one which can be unlearned if your plane crashes in the Andes. Society uses disgust to inhibit many behaviors that can have negative social/physical effects, from killing and eating people to playing with feces. Kids aren't born being disgusted by finger painting the walls with feces. Trust me on this one--I was the oldest kid in my family; the things I saw.
Urine, human bodies, etc, are reused by plants/microbiota on a molecular level. Chunks of eyeballs aren't going to come popping out of grave plantings. So, yeah, it's not going to be disgusting unless you're looking very hard to be disgusted.I have been honored as an Enemy of Nee™ and LAu Tzu hasn't!

Re: Is anybody else disturbed by this..
But the plant that yiou eat isn't a human body though, it's a plant that has the same stuff in it's cells that the body was using. That's like saying if I ate one pig my whole life, that I'm that pig 'transmutated.' The amino acids and stuff from in the pig came from stuff it ate too. So I don't know why people have to make it seem more disgusting then it is. Like I did earlier.

Umm, Merry Christmas!!

This whole discussion reminds me of South Park's "Circle of Poo."

Today's poo=tomorrow's food. So what? When we die our bodies decay and get reused too."Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed" - Psalm 139:16 (NRSV)

Life is disgusting. I hate living. People are only happy by pretending this isn't true.

Re: Is anybody else disturbed by this..
Why do people treat a dead body with respect, might as well just feed them to starving people. People are going to eat them anyway. Just cut it up so it's not recognizable.

Re: Is anybody else disturbed by this..
This really makes me hate living, I don't know why people are being mean to me.
If I stop thinking about it, I would think it's just some survival mechanism in my brain.

I remember a few years ago a guy in the UK wanted his body fed to his dogs after he died. There was a huge public uproar over this, but his logic was, "why waste 180# of perfectly good meat?" It wouldn't bother me one way or the other how my earthly remains are disposed of but it might offend surviving relatives (then again, maybe not!) I can see not wanting to waste anything, but we humans have strong cultural taboos regarding our treatment of the dead.
I don't understand it when people are mean either, but the survival instinct God built into us is pretty strong. Hang in there."Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed" - Psalm 139:16 (NRSV)

Re: Is anybody else disturbed by this..
Okay, I'm stupid so I'm bringing this up again. This is something that I've been obsessing about now. Isn't it exaggerating to say that if you plant plants over you when your dead that you'll turn into the tree? The molecules that were in you would go in the tree after your decomposed, but the tree wouldn't be a transformed version of you. The tree would emit some of what was in you as oxygen, the oxygen that was in your body. I haven't been able to enjoy stuff as much as I had because I keep thinking about this.
I know I sound really dumb. It's okay if everybody hates me on here, since I hate myself.

Re: Is anybody else disturbed by this..
No, you don't. Stop obsessing over yourself so much. You're not stupid. You're not dumb. You're just incredibly self-centered. How about thinking of what you can do for others? It doesn't have to be much. Practice random acts of kindness. People even appreciate simple things, like picking up trash along the side of the road.

"You're just incredibly self-centered"
I have put others before myself. I still do, which makes me feel dumb to be making this post because it makes me feel like a troll. I am taking medicine and have seen psychologist, but it doesn't help. I'm thinking they just want to make me delusional.
