New documents revealed Friday that former President Barack Obama was urged by Democratic senators in late 2016 to take action against Russia for their apparent cyber meddling in the 2016 election, but failed to do so for weeks.

According to documents obtained by Operation 45, a pro-government transparency organization, Democratic Sens. Diane Feinstein (Calif.) and Ben Cardin (Md.) wrote to then-President Obama in Nov. 2016 urging him to take action against Russia for alleged election meddling....

...Mike Morrell, who served as CIA director under Obama, said Sunday that Obama “failed miserably” in his response to Russia during an appearance on CBS “Face the Nation.”

...Then Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), a top congressional Democrat, said Sunday it was a “very serious mistake” on Obama’s part to not take action against Russia earlier than he did. Schiff made his comments during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Because he didn't want it to look as though he was trying to do the same thing that Putin was doing for Trump, i.e. interfering in the election in order to help Clinton. Trump if you recall was already at that time claiming that the election was rigged. Congress was briefed about what was happening with Russia in September, but, like Trump, because the Republicans refused to accept the intelligence briefing to be factual evidence the President was stuck between a rock and a hard place. So, he knew on the one hand that if he went public with the intel that Republicans would spin it as a democrat scam to swing the election in Clintons favor, and on the other hand he knew that Russia had the capability to go even further by actually effecting the outcome of the election by means of changing the voter registration rolls. He opted to warn Putin to knock it off in the hopes that Clinton would still win regardless of the hacking and disemination of fake news. Some in the Administration wanted him to go public with it, but he opted not to believing it would only make things worse than they already were election wise.
You can argue whether or not he made the right decision for the country's sake, but thats the decision he thought best at the time.

Because he was weak and ineffective in general. Because he didn't want it to look like he was interfering in the election to skew it towards Hillary.

Sadly the democratic party has a long history of deliberately refusing to publicize such vote-rigging out of fear that it will undermine the belief in democracy in the minds of the US people and discourage people voting. Them being open now about Russia 'rigging' the election, is a significant change of strategy for them.

Yeah, McConnell being the horrible person that he is, after being briefed about the problem, flatly stated that if the Dems made this public he would respond by making it a partisan issue and bring the full force of the Republican propaganda networks to bear claiming that the Dems were trying to rig the election by making up the idea that Russia was interfering. That didn't give the Dems any great options.

Thats exactly it. Trump was already planting it in the minds of the faithful that the election was rigged and now you had McConnell threatening to do the same if this intelligence were made public. They played right into the hands of the Russian scheme, one purpose of which was to undermine the peoples faith in the democratic election process. Obama felt he needed the Republicans support in order to make the intelligence known to the public, and they refused.

It only became an issue and talking point after Hillary lost. Then they had to have a reason why she lost and they went back to the Russian thing and blamed them. The entire thing was manufactured after the fact to try to take back the White house AFTER they already lost. And to believe that U.S. Intelligence is a manufacturer of biased fake news, propaganda, is exactly what the Russians, and apparently their newly installed puppet, want americans to believe. They want you to believe the same thing about that other great institution of democracy, the free media, that way there would no longer be a check on the powers that be. Who do you believe, Trump or the CIA, FBI, and affilliated agencies? Who do you believe, Trump or the media? Well we know who Trump has many of you believing, so you can kiss democracy goodbye if the Institutions thereof don't hold. So far they are holding.
