Vote 2011 Platinum Screwball: Skeptic Statement

On this remember to vote for the statement only, not the person's reputation as a whole.

      bertaberts

Of course you think it's excuses! You're presupposed to do so. Craig is a laughing stock. It says it all in Dawkins first paragraph "This Christian 'philosopher' is an apologist for genocide. I would rather leave an empty chair than share a platform with him" A two year old could refute Craig, He brings nothing new and it has all been refuted before, he essentially plays the god of the gaps argument, which is fallacious.

      Gearhead Ed

Once upon a time, I didn't concern myself with these discussions. I was an atheist, but had (it seems to me anyway) not been "indoctrinated" or unduly influenced into it. I have read exactly ONE of the books on John's sidebar list, Hitchens' collection "The Portable Atheist"; and also Dawkins' "The God Delusion", but only recently in both cases. On the other side, I read (years and years ago) Josh McDowell's "More Than a Carpenter" and Hal Lindsey's "The Late, Great Planet Earth". Aside from the Bible, that is the extent of my reading on the those subjects. I try not to pollute myself with the thinking of others too much. That's why I said I didn't know if anyone had made that particular observation before.

      little_monkey

I guess you must have a pipeline to God's mind. Now if he could appear as a 500 feet image in the sky simultaneously around the globe, cure 10 million cancer patients overnight, displaced the Rockies to the middle of the Sahara desert, and show without a doubt that he alone can suspend the laws of physics and dazzle us with his woowoo magic, then maybe he might just have a chance to convince me there is a God. But God, according to your perception, is just an imbecile. So I'll do without the village idiot.

      Pitchforkpat

ancient stories don’t have to follow logic. Otherwise the talking snake and talking donkey could be discarded for not making sense.

      SoundSurfr

So how many religious questions have been settled by Biblical scholars over the years, Pixie? How will apologists settle the question of whether Calvinism or Armenianism is true? Or for that matter, whether Christianity is true and Islam is false? There is no set of earthly data that one can obtain to prove one over the other. So you're all just bloviating. And the worst bloviators are the ones who claim to be PROFESSIONAL bloviators. Ultimately, there is no difference between JP Holding and Creflo Dollar. They can both hold up their bibles and shout over each other all the live long day, and neither can ever prove the other wrong. That's why Camping screwed up. He made a falsifiable claim. Otherwise, he'd still be just as credible (or not credible, depending on your viewpoint) as any other bloviator, including Holding. And what's Holding's claim for superiority? Well, his accusation that Camping is "self-studied", while Holding is....what?

So what you’re saying is, pretty much anyone who listens to Joyce Myer is Horsebutt the Clown. Or perhaps they’re all a bunch of retarded chimpanzees. Is that your position? If so, I’ll be glad to help publicize it on your behalf. Or is it that all these people really do know exactly how to tell the difference between an “expert” in the field of Christian ministry and a bloviating hack, and they’ve determined that Meyers is an expert and YOU’RE the hack?

AliburX (YouTube user, on a video where I used Loftus as a character)

OK, first of all, you made up a fantasy character, Loftus, then defined him as an adulterer, and then further defined him as an illiterate who doesn't understand what thou shalt not commit adultery means when he reads it. That guy is your fantasy and does not represent anyone therefore your point is meaningless. There are plenty of us who have studied the bible and still find it severely lacking in any real substance. Simply asserting the bible is meaningful doesn't make it so.

GodKillerAtheist (responding to my query on what he thinks the Hebrew word in Leviticus meant re bats/birds)

You paint a false representation that the bible is an ancient book. The problem is that it's been updated thousands of times. It's even been updated this year. The Hebrew version was updated in 1977 Why didn't they repair this error? Fact is they didn't want to

      Brett Palmer

For arguing against my Elisha vid by saying among other things that: Lev. 13:40 shows that the Hebrews had knowledge of male pattern baldness as a medical diagnosis; we can't assume Elisha's attackers had rocks and sticks available as weapons, because the text doesn't say they picked any up; and I must have though those who attacked Elisha were highwaymen, because in my cartoon I show them (as cute little kids) coming out of a bush.

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

I had to go for LM, as it shows that even if God did do all his demands, he would still deny God.

If anything, AliburX deserves an ANTI-screwball award for that unintentional and awesome slap to John "Look at me I'm such a big name in atheist apologetics" Loftus' ego.

Re: Vote 2011 Platinum Screwball: Skeptic Statement

This was an immensely close contest, as is usual when the stupid gets flowing. Ultimately, I had to go with Gearhead Ed for his completely open, unapologetic, proud announcement of his own willful and deliberate ignorance.
"If God has given [his people] such joy now, joy in their faith, in their hope, in love, in the truth of his scriptures, what kind of joy is he preparing for them at the end? If he feeds them like this on the journey, how will he feast them in their homeland?"

If only he could have read some Jack Chick for a fuller Christian approach.

Has to be Gearhead Ed. who does not want to be confused with the facts. or do any real study on things.

Some so willfully ignorant deserves platinum

As much as I like you vids involving the Bible Skeptic, he seems the story of Elisha and the Bears is his only field of "expertise"...

I think the award should go to GKA... I believe he's confused the Old Testament with the Book of Mormon.

Very tough one. Had to go with pitchy. The more over simplified, the better it is to express imbecility. ^^
