Vote 2011 Platinum Screwball: Christian Statement
Again, vote on the statement, not the reputation of the person.

The only problem with the Dead Sea Scrolls is that it's all in Islamic
Joe Hardy (re Geisler-Licona debate)
Should we permit an atheist to join ETS (Evangelical Theological Society) if he says he believes the Bible is Inerrant, believes in the deity of Christ, and believes in the Trinity?

Demonstrate the Milky Way exists. I haven't seen any compelling evidence for its existence yet.

Due to rampant stupidity by Skeptics, and time issues, I'm only going to be on TWeb in my own (tektonics.org) section from now on. Deal with it.

Ouch, it was a tossup between the middle two.

Then Morgoth turned upon Húrin, and he said: 'Fool, little among Men, and they are the least of all that speak! Have you seen the Valar, or measured the power of Manwë and Varda?
Do you know the reach of their thought? Or do you think, perhaps, that their thought is upon you, and that they may shield you from afar?'
'I know not,' said Húrin. 'Yet so it might be, if they willed. For the Elder King shall not be dethroned while Arda endures.'

I voted for Joe Hardy due to the seriousness of the Geisler-Licona controversy and the foolishness and silliness of Hardy's comment.

I'm kind of torn between the last two because they both are pretty stupid.

I was torn between Joe Hardy and johnmartin, but went with johnmartin because I know that my strong feelings on the Geisler-Licona controversy were probably swaying me somewhat, and the instructions did say not to take reputation into account.

I think every nominee deserves to be a winner.

CS Lewis, Mere ChristianityThere is no need to be worried by facetious people who try to make the Christian hope of 'Heaven' ridiculous by saying they do not want 'to spend eternity playing harps'. The answer to such people is that if they cannot understand books written for grown-ups, they should not talk about them.

Re: Vote 2011 Platinum Screwball: Christian Statement
I didn't get the context of some of these (looking up the controversy now), but some of them I can at least see a possible meaning the person was intending... and it came out wrong.
The first and last one though... I could think of any excuse for them to make 'em better. The first one I tossed out since I could think the person means "arabic" - which makes the statement still dumb, but leaves it just slightly less dumb than the last. There's just no way to deal with that last statement unless the person meant it as a joke or parody of some Christians."One develops a cool and ironic sense of bitter humor, as well as a bloated ego, and this personality characteristic is the defining trait of atheists ancient and modern. If there is a meek and humble atheist or sorcerer brimming with the milk of human kindness, I have yet to meet him." -John C Wright
"Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded- here and there, now and then- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as “bad luck.”"
— Robert A. Heinlein
"America's political system used to be about the pursuit of happiness. Now More and more of us want to stop chasing it and have it delivered."
"The government cannot love you, and any politics that works on a different assumption is destined for no good."
"Government money only pays for the "liberties" the government thinks you should have, and therefore it can determine how you exercise them. That turns liberties into privileges dispensed at the whim of the state."

Check out the 'Geocentrism' thread in Natural Science if you want to understand the context of that statement. JM denies that galaxies exist peroid... (even though the term 'Milky Way' comes from the Greek descriptions of what they saw above them, but don't let him know that one).

That's one of those statements that needs context behind it to see what is so screwy about it. JM believes that the Earth is the center of the universe, so he naturally denies that the Milky Way exist because that would mean the earth (along with the rest of our solar system) orbits the sun.
I would suggest that you take it in slow bits, to prevent your brain being sucked out from your eyeballs.Although what are you doing trying to get me to read some of this stuff, Pixie? Make me as dumb as Tassy?
