I do so wish I could play, but I'm in a situation where my desktop has a good enough video card but not a good enough processor, and my laptop has a good enough processor, but not a good enough video card.

Not that I am aware of at the moment, but I'm sure it will will follow the footsteps of every other MMO and offer it it due time.

Days of my life have been sucked away by this game. Really fun IMO. Playing Republic.

Fairly sure you can. We got assigned Shii-Cho when we made our guild prior to launch, so I haven't tried to build characters on a different server, but I don't see why they would stop you.
