20 “‘On the third day offer eleven bulls, two rams and fourteen male lambs a year old, all without defect. 21 With the bulls, rams and lambs, offer their grain offerings and drink offerings according to the number specified. 22 Include one male goat as a sin offering, in addition to the regular burnt offering with its grain offering and drink offering.

23 “‘On the fourth day offer ten bulls, two rams and fourteen male lambs a year old, all without defect. 24 With the bulls, rams and lambs, offer their grain offerings and drink offerings according to the number specified. 25 Include one male goat as a sin offering, in addition to the regular burnt offering with its grain offering and drink offering.

A message board discussion, like any discussion, ebbs and flows, sometimes in predictable patterns, sometimes not.

People don't frequent here very much because it is the typical ebb and flow of discussion boards.

Phase 1: The Beginning. Admins answer almost all questions and try to please every single user because of such small numbers. Most message boards systems never get beyond Phase 1.

Phase 2: Slow Growth. This can take years. As word gets out numbers slowly grow. Experienced users take the initiative to start answering questions and helping out. New users are amazed at the speed of questions answered.

Phase 3: Nirvana. In my estimate this happens at about 100,000 registered users. There exists a good mix of new users and experienced pros in a great community. Everyone is trying to help everyone else. Reasonable servers can still handle the volume and the lag is minimal.

Phase 4: Attack of the newbies. Respectable newbies and in-experienced lawless newbies come in looking for quick answers. While there are still good newbies looking to learn, other newbies see opportunity to get their answer NOW. If you don't answer this sith newbie's question within 10 minutes he/she will most likely post it again. The chi of the message board starts to change. People start getting annoyed and upset. Numbers keep increasing. The site starts getting to a point where hosting and equipment becomes to expensive to do "for fun" anymore. Lag starts in. People start looking for a more close knit group of experienced pros.

Phase 5 Return of the ads. Banner ads may already be in place, but they soon will be joined by square side ads, button ads, link ads, and any other kind of ad. Newbie population starts to suffocate community feel. Site feels like it gets over-run by 14 year olds (no offense to 14 year olds though). Company implorers advertisers to come. Advertisers dont want to advertise on site with a bunch of newbies wanting things for free. Good people leave and site dies...
